This is a rant about mischaracterisation in the yhs fandom, its probably a bit long bc i have a lot of thoughts on it lol, i dont fully expect anyone to care about this as much as I do, but whatever.....

the YHS fandom is the worst when it comes to characterisation of characters

It's a nightmare here like actually. I'm not trying to be the "character police" or to tell you what to do bc in the end I can't, but oh my god am I going to complain about this, bc it's so bad here.

The mischaracterisation of characters ESPECIALLY the main cast for yandere highschool (and I guess in turn Tokyo Soul) is INSANE, what are some of you guys ON??

Being a Sam fan here is like having to walk through a field filled with landmines that explode to either people assuming you like cc!sam (which trust me most ppl dont) or you idolise an "abuser"

I've only come across a few people who don't think like this but it's like maybe 2-4 people out of an entire fandom, and only 2 of them i actively interact with.

The best example I have is the AO3 space (though tumblr is kinda the same just nearly not as bad) when it comes to the fandom and what they write, I have a personal beef with 90% of writers on there

Why's the yhs/sam tag almost exclusively ONLY grian/hermitcraft stuff

Whys is it always the same story of Grian having a meltdown in Hermitcraft over the apparent abuse Sam did, Why is he always being abused????

Or some sort of story where Sam physically abuses Grian in ways that are so insane.

Why is Sam always portrayed as a monster abuser who does everything to make everyone's life a living hell??? Like.. what yhs did you watch to get that idea??? Where's this coming from and why is it so normalised?

Why cant there be a normal story on there where they are friends getting up to silly things or something.

Sam is cannonly the most pathetic loser there is he gets bad at points i do agree but also.. so does everyone else, that's not exclusive to Sam's character. No one in that series is right not Grian not Sam not anyone. They are all assholes in their own way.

Sam stabbing taurtis in the Halloween special was a case of "i am being forced to be with someone (yuki) who will kill me if I dont do as she says and she gets upset over things easily" ontop of that not to mention like, sam is KNOWN to do whatever people around him tell him to do, he doesn't think for himself almost ever and heavily relies on people around him telling what to do or how to act. Even if Yuki didn't straight up tell Sam "hey stab taurtis" Sam was and still is someone who takes people's way of acting around him and does the same or similar things.

Taurtis is a person who a lot of the time encourages this behaviour in Sam, not always but a lot of the time, and being Sam's best friend Sam of course listens to him and doesn't stop to think that maybe Taurtis is in the wrong, bc to sam taurtis is his entire world almost, Why would he second guess him.

I'm so tired of Grian being the main focus to everyone, Sam being portrayed as an abuser and Taurtis being portrayed as an idiot who knows nothing at all.

And it's wild to me how many people actually think like this, I get finding YHS bc of the taurtis 2 arc I found it that way and i think most people who got into the series after it was finished was bc of that arc, but it's like people just took that as being what the whole series and characters were like.

This fandom has soured my view on Grian's character as a whole, Grian is not a victim, He's not a little abused boy who's scared to leave his home thinking Bad Sam is going to hurt him, It's just not true cannonly, you can have your headcanons but it gets tiring seeing the same story of Grian being a victim and Sam being an abuser over and over again.

And all I'm saying is if you want abused grian so badly- kov!grian is right there, he has valid reasons to be the way he is.

My conclusion: I beg of you, watch the whole series instead of JUST the taurtis2 arc before doing deep characterising of the characters or headcannons.. Or dont, again I cant control you lol.
