How likely do you think it is that Faker has high-functioning autism? I saw a comment on X from someone about that fanclip where he slams his head repeatedly against a wall after watching a game replay where he messed up, and the commenter was saying that his behavior reminds them of their cousin who is on the spectrum after losing at games. Considering some other details - like Kkoma mentioning he used to struggle with eye contact, awkwardness with social interactions, ability to hyper-focus on league for so many years without having much else in his life - it made me consider whether it might be the case

Honestly? I think it's pretty damn likely. Without labeling this guy with anything, he's already very clearly an Abnormal Outlier in the world of LoLEsports (I have to specify LoL though, some other esports have more batshit insane pros like my favorite almost 36 year old unc, Karrigan) and you already pointed out pretty much everything else. To do the things Faker does, your brain just genuinely has to be wired differently from normal people, I think. Its kind of like how if you look at academia, there are a Lot of autistic people.
And this isn't really evidence at all, it's just a fun fact because I. again. can't resist the urge to yap, but probably at least 98% of the time, whenever I created anything for Faker—fanfic and edits (specifically the Lemonade one lol)—I pretty much just projected, and I can't go a week without my IRL, in neuroscience and psychology friends calling me "really fucking autistic", so.
Can I just say that as a fan of benker, of your meta and of your fanworks I'm super sad you've left the fandom 😭😭 Like I get that people are insane and you should prioritize your wellbeing above all, but I'm still hoping against all hope that someday you'll have a change of heart and write that benker manifesto and re-upload your tiktok videos, I used to watch them often 😭😭😭😭
Wow, I'm glad there are still fans lingering around even if Bengifaker did just lose one of their few writers and like. their only English-speaking fanartist after Sleepy and I ran off. It is funny though, because I've had people tell me I seem visibly happier these days, so maybe this fandom really was the problem. We'll see if I ever want to come back, because truth be told, I really don't, especially not after my prediction of "on fucking god, if Peyz/Keria even tries to become popular to try and fill the Guke hole this year" came true. Like, I genuinely don't know how to properly state exactly how low my opinion of the general fandom is.
If you want a Bengifaker manifesto though, you could probably go badger Eloboosting, at least, for one. She's the real OG here, I'm just the guy who got really hyperfixated on Bengi for a year and a half. (Funnily enough, apparently my one draft here is a. Deftker? meta piece that I honestly don't remember writing, but oh well. If the Thoughts ever descend to strike me down, I'll write my Bengifaker manifesto). Everything else aside, I'm glad you liked my stuff though! Hindsight is a bit tainted with how bad the last half of 2025 was, but it was fun creating, for a bit. The narrative for ZOFGK was very much Guke + On2eus while Faker got pared off mainly with rivals, yeah, and I still, even after leaving this fandom, maintain that 2HJ was a government psyop to make people like T1'26 instead of letting it happen naturally. And judging from the few times I've glanced at the tag on Ao3, its Peyz-Keria's turn now, though Guke still has a significantly bigger draw than On2eus did (2HJ's got a bigger tag than On2eus now, mind you, and the most kudo-ed fic is no longer Novembernightsea's Guke fic.)

I'm not really sure if I have any thought to share though, given that I've rather aggressively moved away from this fandom now, but I think it was mainly that he just started Acting Like That out of nowhere and then when the fanbase's response to it was highly positive (holy fucking shit, this fandom finds new yaoi so fucking fast, I genuinely wonder if standards are a thing anymore because everything feels like a goddamn trend to ship instead) Oner just kept doing it. I don't know. To properly have an answer, I'd have to check but if I'm being honest, I'd rather set myself on fire than willingly subject myself to this dumpster fire of a fandom again.

I am procrastinating my bengifaker essay(s) by dusting off my old crackship OT3 because I was reminded of it by @acty-enthusiast. I was originally going to try and find the original meta I wrote for this ship when someone asked me like a year and a half ago, but I couldn't find it, so I'm just going to replicate it to my best ability.
RPF/RPS warning, as usual (featuring the trio of Faker, Deft, and Bengi, plus some Peanut at the end because he snuck in at one point. Deftker, Bengifaker, because this OT3 exists due to using the more normal ships as building blocks)
Alright, for context: I was actually not the first person to come up with and write something for this trio (that honor belongs to archery_shampoo on ao3), but it's worth noting that this Frankenstein's monster of a crackship exists on the English side of the fandom almost purely because of my discussions with a friend of mine, Aster, concerning my D&D AU: divinity (or tacenda). The reason I have this is because I have absolutely ZERO actual evidence for these three (because Bengi and Deft have never actually interacted in any close proximity lmao), this ship is based purely off of dynamics. And because it's built off of nothing but dynamics, what-ifs, and the power of sheer delusion, we have to talk about the three duo dynamics first, and we're going to start with Deftker.
For the sake of being brief, because I started writing and ended up with like almost a thousand words: Deftker, to me, is a duo that can only realistically work if something happens early on that forces them together (pre Korean Exodus/2015, essentially) because beyond that, they start settling more into themselves and become too rigid, in a sense, for them to successfully become close (or at least it stops Deft, because Faker seems fairly interested at times, relatively). But one big problem about forcing Deftker to interact and develop Feelings early on, is that the two of them are like beyblades to me. They are inevitably going to collide and crash and burn and something is going to get set on fire, especially when you consider what happens between their teams in 2014. This kind of conflict, which to me seems rather inevitable, is what makes them interesting and is thus what makes Deft one of the few people whose ships with Faker I actually kind of enjoy thinking about sometimes. How they could get over the implosion and the fallout of 2014 and the consequences of the next few years (2015 with EDG/SKT, 2017 and 2018 with KT/SKT, etc) is fun to think about and explore, and yeah, it's a hard thing to do, if you want Deftker to get over it all and end up together, but then again, has anything been easy, if you really like this ship?
Now, forgive me, because I'm going to leave you hanging for a paragraph while I move onto Bengifaker and also attempt to be brief again: in contrast to Deftker, which, early on, feels like putting fire and fire in a room and letting them explode, Bengifaker is introducing a raging inferno to kindling. Their issues come more from the fact that Bengi had (and still has lmao) a rather pesky issue of letting people steamroll right over him. Being in constant close proximity to Faker and being told to jungle for him didn't help that either, and as I've (probably) said before, early Faker was really...not the best at Human Emotions. Any amount of awareness he currently has towards the feelings and moods of the people around him (possibly including Bengi), is a thing that was developed much later, and by that time, Bengi himself had solidified a kind of opinion, almost. He's resigned himself to being the way he is, to the original dynamic of Faker-and-his-Right-Hand, and so his solution is to stay distant so he can try to be out of the radius while Faker does what he does best and burn. It's why despite the numerous times Bengi's come back to SKT/T1 and Faker, the two of them have still remained rather divorced.
And now that we've got those two duo dynamics in mind, I can move on to the peak of my delusion—why I think these three work well together. With Bengi getting thrown in between Deft and Faker, those two now have a buffer, a mediator, and he can act as almost a distraction for the two of them, to at least put off/push back the date of their implosion, possibly to the point that Deftker mature enough and get a good enough grip on their own emotions that they don't implode. And similarly, as Bengi can work as a distraction from the other half of Deftker for the two of them, Deft can also act as a breakwater for Faker's intensity when it comes to Bengi. There's a bunch of fun angles to explore here, especially if you aren't shy about putting the three of them in a jar and shaking it.
My D&D series (which, again, is genuinely where this thing started, because one of my friends pointed out Bengi-Deft in it) messes around with "so how does this dynamic work, if its set up like this where the three of them kind of have a weird hinge situation with Faker in the middle, if Faker's taken out?" The common thing tying this ship together is Faker, and there's a common denominator for some of the issues both of the main duos face—how Much attention Faker commands, just by existing, and how brightly he burns. And so if you take him away and you leave this massive dark hole where he was, what happens to the two remaining people, especially if you establish Deft-Faker and Bengi-Faker beforehand? Deft and Bengi were/are both significantly more emotional people too. The trio dynamic was just really fun to think about, and there's a bunch of angles you can run off on for them (for example, if you want to go a particular route, there's something about Deft managing to "win" something more permanent/visible over Faker in Bengi lol).
I have no idea if any of this makes since, as it is currently like 2am, but the TLDR is quite literally just "I have delusions and this exists only because the three of them have interesting personalities, which could make for a really fascinating dynamic if put into a jar and shaken". There are essentially zero notable interactions between Bengi and Deft, but depending on how optimistic you are, you can take that as just a lot of space to explore what their dynamic could be (for example, taking into account how similar Deft can be to Faker while also having multiple glaring differences, including the willingness to leave, which actually mirrors Bengi and his leaver heart quite a bit). And. Yeah. The delusional optimistic person is me. I wrote 4 fics, which is 40%, Aster wrote another 40%, and then we roped someone else in to write another, and that's 100% of the English fandom. 👍
Since I also did mention that I threw Peanut in here eventually, though I never wrote anything: what Peanut adds to this dynamic is sheer blunt honesty. Mister "you should just break up" getting tossed into the trio of "so, basically, I'm god", "wow my mental health is shit, but I'm not gonna do anything about it", and "am I ever going to win anything of import"? Lots of fun opportunities. (I do feel like I should re-iterate that usually, whenever I talk about this trio/quartet, I usually talk about the OGN era versions of them, simply because they feel less set, as people, and thus more willing and or capable of big, sudden changes. If we talk about the current, LCK era versions of them, it's a very different conversation). Even with how Bengi can cover for Deftker and how Deft can cover for Bengifaker, none of these three communicate. It's not in their vocabulary, at least, not until they get older and develop a frontal lobe (and even then). Peanut, on the other hand? Feels much more like someone who'd speak his mind and just. say shit he feels like should be said. Not to say that this makes the relationship any less complicated, but it does add something, and it adds something interesting, at least to me.
Anyway, if you've read all the way down here. uh. Thanks for putting up with my absolutely nonsensical rambling, I feel like I was much worse today lmao. I hope y'all enjoy your last few days of 2025.
If I may briefly vent in your inbox since you are someone who I feel may sympathize with my plights:
This is might be my own biases leaking though, but I personally find it very telling that the most popular fics for both choker and 2hy are omegaverse AUs while the most popular fics for both guke and on2eus are canon compliant. Yes, all of those pairings have their fair share of both canon fics and AUs, including smutty ones, but I find it noteworthy that the percentage and popularity of sex-based AUs is significantly higher among newer ships than ones that have been popular for longer. I feel like it reflects a recent shift in the fandom, largely due to an influx of new fans who prioritize seeing their ideal yaoi dynamics above depicting the players with any sort of accuracy to who they are irl. I feel like they don't actually care about the players; they care about a/b/o and for some reason find it compelling to slap players' names onto sexualized caricatures.
Don't get me wrong; I acknowledge that all rpf/rps is just characterizing people in a way that suits you, and ultimately, no rpf is "more accurate" or "more moral" than others because it's all just for-fun, made-up goofiness. It still pisses me off, though, and it resonated with me when you said in your choker rant that, while people can do what they will, you do not understand why certain fans who write or enjoy fic that could be anyone with swapped nameplates would choose to set their camp here, out of all fandoms. I'm hoping that with time, that type of fan will move on to a different fandom, a kpop band or something, at which point I'll wish them all the best

I'm honestly so glad someone else has noticed it too, and I'm really not sure if this is a common thing in RPF fandoms or not, but I looked at some other, more established RPF scenes (Men's Hockey, for history, and BTS, for sheer popularity) and neither have A/B/O in their top ten tags. Smut, yes, but not A/B/O. I did find that interesting (after I made myself stop feeling irritated lmao), and yeah, I have noticed the difference in AUs/setting too. There's a bunch of stuff I could say, but I'd really just end up re-iterating what you and this meme says about this fandom and fandom in general:
I really could not, for the life of me, tell you why people enjoy reading tropes over the specific characterizations and dynamics unique to the characters we make (since its an RPF fandom), and I had already felt like this even before I got cancelled for my opinions and character analysis. It really might be because so many new people are joining the fandom, and that's honestly what I think too, though, to be fair, everyone's susceptible to the hole of "hehe trope". The older fans (both in fandom experience and hopefully actual age) just have the grace to recognize this and not attack anyone else for not doing the same.
And yeah, it does annoy me too, but in the end? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just read your carrd and wanted to ask why you are starting to dislike the T1 25 players (Just to be clear this is not meant as hate, love your meta and analyses)
The short answer is just that T1'25, as a roster, was something that was practically pushed at me all year long and then my growing dislike of the roster started to bleed into the components of that roster. It's rather similar to why my dislike for many ships began/intensified. A good chunk of the fandom is exceedingly loud and hostile, and it's gotten to the point that I just couldn't really enjoy anything concerning the players. It's...I wouldn't really call it a kind of dislike I necessarily want to be participating in, I would actually rather prefer to be aggressively neutral (especially around Doran, since he's the member of T1'25 I don't have any possible lingering attachments from ZOFGK towards him), but I have found myself rolling my eyes a bit whenever posts about them cross my timelines or when media algorithms shove videos at me, and that is pretty obviously bordering on dislike, even if I don't want it to be. Then add in the fact that T1 went on to win a sixth Worlds while already practically suffocating every other storyline that's wholly distinct from them out, and well. Rejoining Counter-Strike's esports scene and re-experiencing the frankly more natural and bigger variety of storylines we see there hasn't done my feelings towards T1 or their players any favors. I try not to let that seep into how I treat them, or at least, how I interact with their image online, but if someone were to ask me "personally, do you like the T1'25 players", my honest answer would be "not really".
Someone finally asked me on Twitter/Strawpage about the fact that I've just straight out and semi-publicly announced my NOTP and of course, my chronic yapper syndrome struck and I ended up with Words about it. So obviously I'm going to throw them here too (Twitter got a screenshot lol, this thing ended up far too long.

Second warning: RPF/RPS below and I am explicitly discussing why I dislike the Chovy/Faker ship because of this Strawpage ask I got. You have been warned.
I've lowkey been waiting for someone to ask me about this lmao. For starters: I've just found myself unable to ship Faker with anyone significantly younger than him/anyone who debuted past 2017, in addition to already being extremely picky about it all. The biggest source of my dislike, however, is actually due to the fandom surrounding the ship. I have no doubt that the majority of you are perfectly pleasant people, but there is always a vocal minority, and because of how big Choker has gotten, that minority is currently Very Loud. So between the ship dynamic somehow often being portrayed as "big possessive buff alpha x small gentle delicate omega" (which is a dynamic that I absolutely fucking despise to begin with), the prevalence of the A/B/O trope (which is a trope I didn't really like that much/was very picky about to begin with, and, more generally, I see the tendency to throw out anything that could have been interesting—personality, inter-personal dynamics, history—in favor of just plain porn), and the weird instances of certain shippers feeling comfortable enough to intrude into other shippers' spaces, and, on a few occasions, essentially go "I'm going to write [other pro] as the villain in this shipfic and I'm not going to do research on [other pro]'s personality/how to integrate them fairly into this story at all" (at the very least, I've personally seen both Bdd and Bengi get shafted like this, and of all the people you could have POSSIBLY made out to be a villain—these two? really? just make an OC at this point, because the only thing recognizable about them is their name), I've very rapidly grown to dislike it. I can see how it can be interesting and I can see why people like it, but any of the appeal has been absolutely drowned out for me. That last point is definitely my problem, I know, but I do value at least trying to portray these guys fairly, especially since this is RPF, and if you're writing/consuming stories that are essentially just [Any Guy] x [Any Guy] but with nameplates tacked on, I, personally, genuinely do not understand why you wouldn't go be in/interact with the frankly more respectable fandom of Original Characters. But at the end of the day: it's not my cup of tea and I am still someone who gets influenced by other people.
hi i stumbled across your faker/bengi/guma/keria write up and i have So Many Thoughts. due to my on-and-off decade+ long league addition ive watched pro play casually for ages but have never really interacted with fan spaces (mostly bc lol esports fans generally seem to have the unique and deadly combination of both not understanding the game and not understanding the players). your post was the first time i’ve really seen someone engage in tragic sports narratives for league and in such a thoughtful way too!! it was fascinating to read. im not coming at this from an rpf perspective exactly or as someone who knows much about the players but even i had noticed Something Was Up with gumakeria.
like back in 2021/2022 they were totally t1’s ecouple botlane in a way that felt funny and harmless. gumayusi was the one making the jokes, but keria was playing along with it. and that was the image i had of them for years until watching the knowing bros t1 episode (lmao) and keria was so obviously not interested in being described as gumayusis mother/girlfriend/etc while guma was totally willing to go with it/play it up the entire time…idk i think there’s totally a power imbalance specifically in this kind of highly Gendered yaoibait. like because women don’t play pro league the stereotype of supports at the pro level tends to be about micro/macro rather than femininity/gender but t1 zofgk obviously broke containment in korea and keria seemingly ended up with this intensely cute/soft (omega…) image (fairly different from his image generally among league players imo), while gumayusi got to be suave and cool and masculine. keria definitely seems to be someone highly ambitious and interested in being recognized for his accomplishments and idk im not keria but if i were a mid 20s korean gamer dude and if my friend was consistently willing to play into an image that put me in the position of essentially experiencing misogyny by proxy and not being treated seriously as an athlete. well i probably wouldn’t be too happy about it.
so not that its the only or even primary reason for the divorce but i think that the fandom image of keria esp in the context of guke is not just wrong but probably not exactly something he enjoys either.
anyway sorry for bringing real world homophobia/misogyny into your tumblr asks. also two more thoughts 1. i didn’t even get to bring up faker or bengi but i find it so interesting how much fakers image has been sanitized/softened over time and you really nailed that and 2. i would love to know your thoughts on canyon and sm if you gaf abt them. as players ive heard them compared to bengi/faker all the time plus imo the Narrative of the explosive debut into near miss into stagnancy/slow decline and the one who stayed vs the one who left…it all seems very perfectly tragic. so sorry for the insanely long message omg!!!! youre a genius and you awakened something in me lmao i have like 20000 more things i could say
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed my over three thousand words of pure yap (💀). This fandom is certainly...an interesting one, to pick a neutral word for it, but oh well, it is what it is. I didn't really fully verbalize (though mostly because I'd more or less fully fallen out of love in T1/Guke by the beginning of this year) what was going on with them, but yeah, even at least in hindsight, there was something clearly Different about them, especially compared to 2021/2022.
And not going to lie, I hadn't really realized/considered that part of it, but you're right. Gumayusi already obviously seems to know about the shipping/RPF/RPS, and most (at least somewhat) permanently online celebrities do too—Keria almost 100% knew about it as well. I'd be pissed too if all of my personality traits got sanded down and or outright replaced in order to fit that soft/cute image the fandom has. Honestly, I don't think anyone would be happy to be shoved into that kind of a box because. Yeah. Wow. Don't apologize though! It's interesting to think about :D
As for Faker: when it comes to observations about him, I think I have the benefit of being not only someone who's consumed a rather concerning amount of old media that featured him recently, but also someone who didn't tunnel vision on him in isolation when watching said media. I'm glad you think my take hit the spot!
And Canshow: I've thought about them before briefly, mainly because at least one of my friends fell violently down the Showmaker rabbit hole recently. On paper, I think, the two (Canshow and Bengifaker) are very similar because yeah, it's an iconic jungle-mid duo, one of whom was a Star Carry and the other was more supportive, who stay together for so long (and even when rosters fall apart around them) until eventually the jungler leaves the mid behind. But if you look closer, I think there's a bit of dissonance in the comparison, actually. Canyon's reasoning for leaving versus Bengi's, for example. Canyon left to chase his ambitions and went to GenG and did have at least some of those ambitions fulfilled: he's won MSI twice, LCK thrice—it's Showmaker who's continued to decay. On the other hand, I don't really think Bengi left SKT for a "better" team to win trophies on, it seems much more like he just wanted to leave SKT, though he still wanted to play and he wanted to play with friends (and so he followed Easyhoon to Vici in China). But while Faker managed to pick himself up from that (winning MSI and LCK in 2017) and picking himself up from Worlds 2017 and the next couple of years to win even more titles, Bengi just kind of exists now. Another is how the duos are treated in general. Bengifaker is Faker and his right hand. Canshow is Canyon and Showmaker. It's a slight difference, but I think it affects the two dynamics in a nontrivial way. The last is what they were like off the rift. Bengi and Faker were notoriously shy and awkward people and while Bengi was a bit better with friends (I could link so many videos of him interacting with SKT but I will make this thing even longer + not to say that other pros aren't—a good chunk of them very much were and are still), Faker, especially back then, was still awkward to hell. Their offstage synergy, if you will, was honestly not the best. They certainly had public interactions, but they were no Guke. Canshow, on the other hand, seems to have had (and sometimes continues to have, thank you Siwoo) displays of closeness, if not outright affection (which are then almost 100% of the time read into RPS, because that is how RPF fandoms work and how fandoms in general work). And I'm going to bring Guke up again as a benchmark—Canshow seems to have had a kind of "honeymoon" period around 2020 before it all started to slowly decline at DWG/DK got worse and worse—because Canshow does kind of read to me as a dynamic that sits somewhere between Bengifaker and Guke's. All three have their own brand of tragedy, and it's great, if you read into it.

Thank you for sharing your analyses of Faker, Keria, and Oner. They were insightful, and I tend to agree with most of your observations, especially the perception that a notable portion of the T1 fandom seems resistant to change in terms of acknowledging player development over time. It felt refreshing to see someone engage with the players critically (as in analytically, not as in negatively, although naturally there's a balance of both) as that is largely how I prefer to engage with fandom as well. Just my personal tastes, but I'd much rather read someone's character study of a real person than yet another pwp about that same guy.
On that note, in response to your a/b/o opinions, I was wondering if you ever read that one canyon-showmaker omegaverse fic where the LCK requires ShowMaker to have a permanent mate and he and Canyon have a whole discussion about how unfair that is? There's a lot of smut surrounding it, but that one scene stuck with me as saying something about pro-player contracts and their choice to sacrifice their youth, their health, and in this case, their lovelife, all for a chance at making it big. There's one line that's something like "You're still young, they can't expect you to make a life-changing commitment" and the response is "I'm not giving up on my dream, so unfair or not, I'm doing it." I wish the fic had explored that more, because to me that's an example of using a/b/o as almost a metaphor for something true and terrible about how competitive e-sports, and sports in general, drains young men. It's still an excuse for sex, too, of course, but in the right hands I think the a/b/o trope can add something valuable to a plot.
Sorry for the rant, I wanted to send only that first part but got distracted;; I hope you find something cool or reassuring in there.
My favorite part of fandom has always been the exploration of lore and characters/dynamics as well, though I am kind of shocked that it's gotten me into this position because I do very much try to be at least somewhat objective, not negative, when doing character and dynamic analysis. But anyway, ignoring that portion of the fanbase, I'm glad you enjoyed! I think you and I have similar tastes XD
I haven't, mainly because I haven't really read much a/b/o (or much from this fandom over the past year in general, to be honest), but I will go find that now.
(I will admit, I'm not very surprised to see the author, he's a good writer lol) Worldbuilding for a/b/o is genuinely so interesting, and even if I personally don't like having permanent mating bites with only one-sided effects, I do think that the little bit of elaboration in the fic is very interesting, yeah. The permanent sacrifices made to go dream-chasing—always a fun thing to read and think about!
