Aggressively Jewish

the thing is we cannot make judaism about antisemitism. we can’t let us sink so deeply into grief about the dehumanization and violence and hurt. we have to make judaism about us jews, about k’lal yisrael and l’dor va dor and everything in between. we need to be jewish and love being jewish and yeah we deal with the vitriolic hate but every generation does, and still we’re here being jewish — spiritually, in praxis, in education, in joy, in despair — not just out of spite but out of LOVE and perseverance. it’s getting bad i know it is, it’s been a decade of alarms sounding. but antisemitism cannot be the boundaries within which we operate as jews, as a people.

I never see them do this for China either, even though one of their main taking points is about the Uyghurs.

People would stop clowning on the "punch a nazi" crowd if they were actually capable of identifying a real nazi instead of conflating it with "person who disagrees with me"

The "Punch a nazi" people are the same ones who made maps of synagogues, and apps that tell you which groceries not to buy because theyre "zionist"

there are only six people following this blog and I mostly used it as a journal, but I hope someone sees this. I started this account in high school when I was very insecure in my Jewishness. I wanted so badly to live a Jewish life and I felt not Jewish enough to try. it’s 10 years later now and I’m a Hebrew school teacher, I light shabbat candles almost every week, I speak Yiddish, I play Jewish music on the violin and guitar (personally and professionally), I have a degree in Jewish studies, people I know text me to ask me questions about halakha, and I’m waiting to hear back about my rabbinical school application. I get so much joy from my Jewish life. I’m so glad I started learning. I’m so glad I chose to be Jewish.

"vast harm to diaspora jews is being caused by israel" no actually its being caused by antisemites. its caused by the regular ordinary people who decide to stab and shoot and beat and injure jews. its caused by regular people who decide to ram their cars into synagogues and set fire to jewish preschools. israel isnt boycotting jewish businesses and vandalizing them. israel isnt firebombing synagogues and throwing elderly jewish women off balconies. fuck you.

the fact that people's takeaway is "israel just attacked iran! how evil! poor iran!" rather than "iranian people have been begging for this to happen and have been murdered in the tens of thousands by this horrible government for protesting because they want a regime change" just shows that hating jews and hating israel is higher on these peoples priority list than the lives and futures of the iranian people. its like they only know that iran exists when they see a headline that says the word israel in it. they cant even be fucking bothered to read a single thing. they just want to justify their hatred for israel. they dont care what the people of iran have been going through for ages. its so fucked and to the people of iran: the jewish community is standing with you. woman, life, freedom.
