Thoughts on Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
Why do so many people (particularly young people) love Bernie Sanders and dislike Hillary Clinton?
Lets start off with the fact that Bernie Sanders started as a virtual unknown with no real chance of winning. Bernie came in to this fight with nothing to lose. Hillary on the other hand, had the pressure of everyone expecting her to win before she even announced she was running and also, the added burden of proving that as a woman, she is more capable than any man to be President. I know it's seems like a cop out to play the woman card, but if you "super-liberals" are really as feminist as you claim to be, you cannot deny that her being a woman plays a factor into EVERY aspect of her campaign.
So why do young people love Bernie and dislike Hillary? Lets think of this in terms of two types of parents. Bernie is the dad that tells kids that everyone gets ice cream, while Hillary is the mom that tells you that you have to eat your dinner first. Bernie says you can play video games all day, while Hillary tells you that you have to do your homework first. Bernie promises everyone a new car when they turn 16, while Hillary tells you she can help with the down payment but you are going to have to get a job to make the payments. Bernie doesn't get a real job because he is following his dreams of someday making it big with his music career, why Hillary is labeled a "sell out" because she took the job at the firm to help support and provide for her family. Now from a young person's perspective, of course you are going to love Bernie Sanders and not like Hillary. Who doesn't want have all their hearts desires without having to face reality. Most adults know that the world does not work this way and in the end while Hillary's way is not as much fun, it's the more realistic path in the long run. Revolution sounds great and exciting but real, lasting change happens gradually by building on the progress that has come before.
Another factor in the dislike of Hillary among young people is because they believe her to be dishonest. Now where could that idea have possible come from? Maybe they get it from the millions of dollars the Republicans have spent slandering Hillary in so many scandals and criminal activities that I can't even keep track. Even if you say you do not believe these "crimes", the fact of hearing the same thing over and over is going to plant negative connotations in your mind even if it's only subconsciously, but it's there. So the way I see it there are two possibilities, either Hillary is a mastermind criminal who has Machiavellian manipulation skills and she has been able to commit all these crimes and never get caught or found guilty (which if that is true, who wouldn't want someone that brilliant using those skills FOR America?), or it's all bullshit that is made up by the republicans because they are so threaten by her that they will DO and PAY anything to stop her.
One final factor that I hear about why people dislike Hillary is because she changes her view on things just to "get votes". Again, this idea that the Republicans put in your mind, that Hillary is this super manipulative person is going to make you question her every action as having an ulterior motive or being disingenuous. I like to think that someone who changes their stance on issues over time is favorable to someone who sticks with there same beliefs no matter what facts come to contradict their beliefs. There is some saying that goes something like, if you still think the same things you thought ten years ago, then those ten years have been wasted. A President who adapts and changes to fit the times is one that will keep this country moving forward in a rapidly changing and evolving world.
Now this is not to say that I have anything against Bernie, I actually like him, just not for president. Hillary may not be as “fun” or "hip" as Bernie, she may not have vampire weekend perform at her rallies, but she is the most grounded, the most prepared, the most qualified (in all areas required of the job), than anyone else. She has realistic goals and she will work harder than anyone else as President because no one knows better than Hillary, what is at stake being the first woman President. Hilary knows that being the first woman President means she can't just be a good President, she has to be one of the best and she will use her strength, her intelligence, her compassion, her unrelenting drive to make that a reality! In my opinion, electing the first ever woman President is the MOST REVOLUTIONARY thing we can do!
