you wake up on wednesday morning, your head has a heartbeat and your left nostril is blocked. “shit.” you mumble, throat scratchier than ever. you sniff weakly, wincing at how loud it sounds in the quiet room.
“kook,” you shake him gently, your fingers brushing over his arms. you feel slightly guilty waking him up before his alarm as you know he has to get ready for work in a bit.
‎jungkook stirs in his sleep, brows knitting for a second before relaxing again. he lets out a small hum, instinctively turning toward your warmth. he slowly opens his eyes and they soften immediately upon looking at your face—puffy, tired, and clearly not okay. in other words - you look like shit.

“what’s wrong?” he says quietly, voice still heavy with sleep, hand already reaching for you like it always does.
‎
“sick. think it’s a cold.” your voice cracks halfway through. his face falls instantly as he leans closer without hesitation, placing the back of his hand against your forehead, then your cheek, like he’s double-checking.
‎
“you feel like a furnace, holy shit.” he sits up so fast the blankets shift around you. “wait—don’t move.” he presses the covers more securely around you as if you'd run away before quickly leaving the room, feet padding against the floor.
‎you try to keep your eyes open, you really do, but your body gives in. the covers feel so warm & comfy and the headache that's gradually worsening renders you too weak to stay awake.

he calls work to notify them that he's taking a day off (makes some lame excuse about going to a funeral because he knows they won't take "my girlfriend is sick" for an answer) then he comes back a few moments later, quieter this time, careful not to disturb you. he sets things down gently, then leans over you.
‎“hey… sit up for me,” he murmurs, one hand sliding behind your back.
‎he lets you lean against him, your weight naturally settling into his chest as you snuggle into it. he brushes the hair out of your face, tucking it behind your ear with a worried look on his face.
‎“be careful,” you warn him weakly, your fingers lightly gripping his shirt. “..i don’t want you to get sick too.”
“i’ll be alright,” he softly smiles, thumb absentmindedly tracing over your shoulder like he doesn’t even realise he’s doing it.
‎“did you leave the windows wide open again while i was away yesterday?”
‎you stiffen just slightly. he raises a brow. that’s all the confirmation he needs.
‎“silly, silly girl…” there’s no real scolding in his tone. just fondness. he helps you take the meds, watching until you swallow properly, then hands you water again like he doesn’t trust you not to forget.
‎he lays you back down on the bed, pulling the blanket up under your chin, smoothing it out. “rest for a bit, okay? you can eat something when you wake up.”
‎“thanks koo—”
“doctor jeon. call me doctor jeon.”
‎you both stare at each other in silence.
‎“i’m not fucking calling you that.”
‎“so you hate me?”
you groan. "fine. thanks, doctor.”
‎“doctor who?”
“wait! i love that show.”
“babe.”
‎you sigh, turning your face slightly into the pillow to hide the small smile creeping in.
“thanks, doctor jeon.”
‎“better. you’re welcome.” he pats your head—twice - like you’re a child, then he scratches your scalp.
‎“is this some type of foreplay?”
“you always know how to ruin a moment.” he shakes his head, but there’s a smile tugging at his lips as he walks toward the door.
“wait, i didn’t realize we were having a moment—” a sneeze interrupts you, sudden and sharp. “dude—wait. i’m sick! can you come back?”
‎he glances over his shoulder.
“rest before i strap you to that bed.”
you roll your eyes, but you watch him leave anyway, listening until his footsteps fade.

A FEW HOURS LATER…

the smell of ramen wakes you up. your nose is still slightly blocked but not as bad as it was earlier. you blink slowly, disoriented for a second before dragging yourself out of bed, one hand holding the wall for balance.

you find jungkook in the kitchen, sitting down and eating his ramen, phone propped up in front of him. he looks up immediately the second he hears your footsteps.
“morning, sleepy,” he grins, eyes flicking over your messy hair and oversized hoodie.
“hey,” your voice is quieter now, rough but lighter.
he watches you walk in like he’s checking for any sign you might collapse. his chopsticks pause mid-air.
“why are you up?”
“because something smells good,” you mumble, dragging your feet over to him. you rest your chin on his shoulder for a second, peeking at his bowl.
he huffs, but he leans his head slightly toward yours anyway.
“go sit. i was literally about to bring it to you.”
“mm. liar.”
“i’m serious.” he furrows his eyebrows, half offended that you question his boyfriend abilities.
“you were eating it.”
“…quality check.”
you snort softly, then move to sit down. he gets up immediately, grabbing another bowl, already portioning some for you without asking how much you want. he always does that—just knows.
‎“careful, it’s hot,” he says, placing it in front of you. his hand briefly presses against your back as you sit, grounding, safe.
‎you take a bite, shoulders relaxing instantly.
“this is so good…”
“i know,” he says proudly, sitting across from you now, watching you more than his own food.
when you notice him staring you pretend to air punch him but he pinches your side before you can make any impact. you yelp, immediately trying to run away but his hands grab your hoodie and drag you back to the chair.
“sit down, idiot—”
suddenly, he pauses completely.
jungkook’s face contorts and you freeze upon the realization that he’s about to sneeze. his nose twitches slightly, eyes squinting—he really does look like a bunny.
eventually he lets out a loud sneeze. his head hangs low for a second afterwards.
he gently exhales, “fuck.” he looks at you with fake murderous intent in his eyes.
you sheepishly smile. “merry christmas?”
your instincts tell you to run far, far away and he calls after you the second you do.
“come here, you!"
‎you giggle as you both circle the kitchen counter, the ramen long forgotten by now.
‎as soon as you’re about to reach the edge of the counter, he does a fake out—competitive as always—and catches you off guard. you pause for a millisecond too late and he grabs your wrist, tugging you toward him.
your body bumps lightly into his. his grip softens instantly, thumb brushing over your wrist without thinking.
“hi.”
“hi.”
‎“are you this close with all your patients, doctor jeon?” you tease, breath still uneven.
‎“only the cute & agitating ones…” you giggle when he grabs your shoulders with both of his firm hands, steadying you. “now sit. if i get sick because of you then we’ll both need taking care of.”
‎“would a handsome doctor be taking care of us?” your eyebrows move up and down.
“shut up.”
you stick your tongue out, knowing exactly how easily that annoys him. his nose scrunches immediately.
‎“babe, you’re actually so lucky i’m pure of heart and the best boyfriend ever. other boyfriends would send their women back to sleep. but no. i couldn’t dream of denying you food… had to take care of you.”
‎you blink at him, amused, chin resting on your hand as he goes on.
‎“you’re welcome… by the way. i see you’re so touched by my words that i rendered you speechless but that’s okay. you’ll make it up to m—”
you shove him lightly as he chuckles loudly, grabbing your wrist again just to pull you back before you can fully move away.
“you’re so annoying.”
he looks at you, pretending to be offended, hand pressing dramatically against his chest.
“hey, you might wanna thank said annoying doctor for taking such good care of you,” he scoffs.
“okay, you big baby. thank you for taking such good care of me and i love you and all your annoyingness.” you tilt your head. “was that good, doc?”
‎he immediately straightens, posture shifting like he’s actually on duty.
“very well, i’ll check up on you again later… you know, since i’m just so good at my job. no need to thank me.” his lips twitch as he watches you roll your eyes for the umpteenth time this morning.
‎“whatever.”
you turn around but don’t miss the sound of his jaw slacking as he watches you speedwalk away to the bedroom, already anticipating what he’s about to do next.
‎“excuse me?”
“so so very sorry, doc. but i can’t hear you over all this, um, sickness.”
he quickly walks over to the door right as you’re about to close it, hand catching it just in time.
“hey babe, did i ever tell you that you sound a bit like squidward when you’re sick?”
you slam the door in his face.
“go away,” you grumble, voice muffled behind the door.
“no, really. it’s cute, though.” he grins at the door, forehead resting against it for a second, like he’s picturing your expression.

“hey babe?”
‎“jungkook.”
‎“sorry, sorry. i’ll be back later. love you… even though you’re a cunt when you’re sick…” he mumbles the last part quietly, already stepping back.
‎“heard that.”
‎jungkook flinches, eyes widening as he quickly backs away from the door before he ends up a dead man.

(then again… if he dies by the hands of his girl, he’ll die a happy man.)

• he always buys the cutest items that remind him of you. a my melody plushie, some obscure drink that's in your favourite flavour — oh! and the daintiest dress that he knows you'll look ever so pretty in. only the best for his baby.
• as the years go by, jungkook's heart tugs when he sees baby clothes. when looking at the plushies, instead of picturing solely you - he pictures you both being parent — buying things for his daughter & shopping together. he tries not to imagine you with a baby bump in that scenario, though..makes him throb a bit. (he won't tell you that just yet.)
• jungkook's attentiveness is such a turn-on. your comfort = his relaxation. small things like driving you everywhere to make sure your delicate feet don't endure a tough journey, handing you your coat, scolding you lightly when you dare go outside in the cold without some form of warmth.
"okay wait. babe..you actually don't get it. a scarf would ruin the fit."

• jungkook doesn't say "i love you" all the time. but his actions always show it. you'll never need to ask for reassurance - for he instantly clears your doubts before they could even appear in your head.
• he discretely glances at you during movie nights together, constantly checking if you're watching and haven't fallen asleep (like you usually do). you always shove his face away when you notice - pretending to be annoyed, but secretly loving the attention.
• on the nights when you do fall asleep, he's always annoyingly cute and sulky — still he carries you to bed, like he always does.
• jungkook loves you loudly, without having to utter a single word. anybody who looks at the guy can tell. the small smile he only has for you, the way he looks at you as if you've hung the moon. all for you, his pretty girl. ♡
