EYES WIDE OPEN IN A CITY ASLEEP

The racist Damian story is definitely one of the worst things about DC's AAPI celebration comic but to be clear it's not the only thing that was bad about the comic. A comic issue purporting to celebrate AAPI heritage that featured 90% East Asians and also included the bizzarely written Katana story where someone calls an Asian guy "rice man" (which I know is supposed to be bad but it comes off as such a juvenile portrayal of racism it makes me roll my eyes). But perhaps I shouldn't complain too much given that since its release five years ago DC hasn't made another one since.

i do think it’s important that “batman & robin” as a type of relationship is like, a major and distinct thing. that’s a type of relationship independent of fatherly or brotherly or what have you. i also think thats partly what makes his relationship with cass so interesting (when they bother to write it!) because she’s his daughter but never his robin and that’s really special and unique compared to the way he relates to and talks to all the other of his Children

i am so sickkkkkkkk of people seeing misogyny perpetuated by a man and automatically going "well SOMEONE'S closeted" omfg you know that men hate women even when theyre attracted to them right??? why are you more interested in making fun of gay people than hating misogynists. you fucking freak

The best part of any fandom experience is getting so deep into your love and analysis that your ranting about The Characters is borderline incomprehensible unless you write a 10 page essay. And then you find another fan equally as obsessed on the same wavelength and you just go back and forth with those 10 page essays. Unbeatable. Hey I've got an hour to kill want to hear my rant about how the deliberate way The Character is always framed through other people's pov and never her own is a part of her battle with the metanarrative of the show to retain her privacy? ALSO I dislike when the name Signal is collapsed into being just about him patrolling in the daytime or his powers because ultimately Signal is about his philosophy. It's about wanting to be a hero like his mom, to be a knight and a force against darkness, to be the first on the battlefield signifying both a belief in personal responsibility and a desire to be a symbol for his community. TO BE SIGNAL IS TO BE A SIGN OF THE FUTURE, A HERALD OF THE ONCOMING DAWN!!!!

there's a lot of good reasons to read a lot of comics like "genuine enjoyment of the story and characters" and "appreciation for the art form" but by far the pettiest and most valid reason is so you'll know when people you don't like on the internet are lying.

it doesn't matter which country we're talking about here, if someone from any country in the world says "oh where i am from there is simply no racism", you not only shouldn't believe them, but you should actually never take them seriously about anything ever again.
