Can we all just take a moment to breathe? In... and out... It's been crazy with the hurricane doing pretty substantial damage to our beautiful island. Thankfully, it could have been much worse and our main problem was with docks getting destroyed and trees. Trees are down everywhere you go! They're just reopening the island for the first time since #hurricanematthew at 3pm today - after some extensive cleanup. My home made it without a scratch, or any water damage, believe it or not! So, I am quite lucky! Thank you @k_ziebell for this beautiful photo of Hilton Head. It doesn't look this wonderful right now, but I'd rather keep the posts as positive as possible. As you sit and drink your morning coffee, keep the east coast in your prayers! This is the largest evacuation I've ever experienced living on the coast with Hurricane Matthew coming through. It's my favorite time of year! Loggerhead nesting lasts from May to October, so if you visit and you see these on the beach, it means that a nest has been identified in the spot - OR that a nest has been carefully moved to that spot. Sometimes, nests get laid in potentially dangerous areas and our amazing people at the Coastal Discovery Museum go out and carefully move those to safer spots! So please, never walk on those areas, turn your lights out at night and never disturb a sea turtle on the beach! (I always think of you see a baby turtle going the wrong way that it should be safe to move him to the water, but if you see a large turtle on the beach, it's a female trying to lay eggs. And if you shine a flashlight on her or make her feel threatened she will stop nesting and run to the safety of the water.) Keep a lookout!

My family tries to keep to hypoallergenic animals, because we have a lot of sneezers in the family! So, when we used to vacation we would get Hermit Crabs from the Shell Shop on vacation! My daughter is actually taking one to college this spring, to remind her of home, and keep her company! Now this isn't Hilton Head, but a few weeks ago I visited a week in Lake Lure, NC! It was my first time - but a beautiful place. It was a great little break from the coastal heat and humidity😅 but the highlight of the trip was how much everyone loved the duck that passed by our dock at least twice a day! Does your family have any annual/tradition trips or places you go? I'm really curious! Hilton Head used to be my family's favorite yearly vacation, but I can't say that anymore since we've lived here more than 10 years now☺️ Anyways, I hope you're all starting off your day right! Yes please! I've been trying to convince my family to take a cruise for years now (on a real cruise ship of course!) it's been, geez, 12 years since we went on one?
