I don’t like musicals so I can’t help you there, the only musical I’ve ever enjoyed is Once More With Feeling in Buffy. 

This is interesting because I don’t think I really set out to watch comedies or romances it’s more like dramas or epics that have romance in them and I’m like OMG but we’ll start with the obviously romantic and some of them are going off of movie choices I made as a kid but that have stayed with me in some way as opposed to something I would watch now:

His Girl Friday

I highly recommend even if the black and white kind of deters you, it’s a great script, really witty and they’re hilarious together, great chemistry.

You’ve Got Mail

When Harry Met Sally

Titanic (*note* I know you’ve probably already watched it and I HATE this movie now, I honestly can’t stand it but this movie was the epic romance of my childhood and I was obsessed with it then and it is kind of the perfect whirlwind teenage romance so I would be remiss not to put it down)

Shakespeare In Love

Love and Basketball

The first romance I saw between two young black people and it’s an iconic movie, I love it a lot.

A Man and A Woman

I mean I DO just love Gong Yoo, it’s not a movie with a lot of substance but it’s very sensual.

Walk The Line

They had a surprising amount of chemistry and it’s a very good torturous romance in a movie that’s about other things as well.

Atonement 

The iconic library scene and Keira Knightley’s green dress. It’s, like, pretty sad though, so you’ve been warned.

Pride & Prejudice

I actually don’t care for the book or for Jane Austen to be quite honest with you but this adaptation was in fact a good one.

Slumdog Millionaire

Mostly for when they were kids honestly.

As Good As It Gets

Ever After

This is one of those childhood things I was saying before because they’re fucking French and speaking in English accents and just, lmao, this movie is a mess. I have a soft spot for it though.

Ghost

I personally don’t care much for Ghost but it’s one of those classic romance movies with iconic scenes that maybe you’d want to watch if you haven’t already.

Jerry Maguire

Kind of a must. It has a lot of lines considered iconic in North American cinematic history, so.

Tangled

Yes, I said Tangled. They have more chemistry than SC and DE combined and they’re animated.

Lord of the Rings

Because of Arwen and Aragorn.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Because of Will and Elizabeth. I kinda dug Davy Jones being a man scorned too tbh.

Their Eyes Were Watching God

Watching Halle Berry and Michael Ealy was like … … y’all need to chill and I think everyone should experience that.

Comedies

This Is The End

I expected to hate this movie and I ended up loving it waaaaaaaaaay more than I expected.

Knocked Up

This movie is a little controversial I personally find it hilarious and quite sad at the same time.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

I don’t even know how many times I watched this.

Moonstruck

Moonstruck is such a bizarre movie. Another classic.

Hercules.

Yes, Hercules. Some really great lines in this movie. Also Hades is me.

Zoolander

I literally can’t explain why I love this movie as much as I do, I think it’s fucking brilliant and awful. I’m laughing AS I post these gifs.

Coming To America

It’s a classic.

My Cousin Vinny

I always forget about My Cousin Vinny but I find it hilarious.

On December 3rd, 2018, Tumblr’s Department of Irony announced the NSFW ban. Thanks for providing this salutary lesson to The Youth and a billion reblogs to me, I guess.

This is only a small taste of the many times that:

Fannish moderators got bored, ran out of money, or had a falling out, deleting a site/list/forum along the way.

Sites got bought out and closed for being unprofitable.

Fandom got hit as governments targeted piracy or political dissidents.

Fans grudge reported each other.

Official forums got deleted when the canon finished.

It’s not always malicious. It’s not always about us. But we lose every time.

Some of these purges hit everyone. Many of them hit m/m content specifically or female gaze-y material in general. This is why antis are dead wrong. This is why anti-fujoshi policies end up being anti-m/m policies. This is why we need clear labeling, not content restrictions.

This is why we need AO3.

Before the computing era, ILM was the master of oil matte painting, making audiences believe that some of the sets in the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were real when they weren’t. So the weird thing about having a friend commit suicide is that you kind of… forget after a while. It slips your mind that they’re no longer here, and how, and why, while you get on with your life.

And every now and then you get a sudden reminder.

For me, it’s seeing their face. It’s always the same profile picture off Facebook, because of course it will never update now, and it always takes me by surprise.

“Oh!” I find myself thinking, “I haven’t seen you since…” and then I remember. And then the feelings all come back.

Often it’s the birthday. Sometimes it’s the anniversary.

And, more lately, it’s been some other article or think piece written by someone who doesn’t really understand our profession, who thinks the mental health of veterinarians and the toll is takes falls under a neat ‘human interest’ story, and uses the profile pictures of those we’ve lost, big, front and center.

There’s also this unfortunately new feeling whenever I’m browsing a vet forum to see some ‘tragically lost from us’ post in memorandum, and instead of shock or anger, all I feel is a resigned “oh. Who was it this time?”

And that shouldn’t be a normal reaction.

There’s not been any systemic change, just a lot of talking. There probably wont be any time soon. All I can do is prime as many people as possible through this blog to look out for themselves, and try to take care of three or four colleagues in particular.
