y'all right, bud?

     «Oh, yeah, right...» 

After clearing his throat and clasping his already sweaty hands together, the young man turned his gaze down to the floor, refusing to meet her eyes as he asked in a shy voice;  

    «I wanted to ask if you are...I don't know, free tomorrow? Not free as in free like extra things you can get at the supermarket if you get enough customer points or something like that, but free as in...time, you know.» 

    This was her chance. It was the perfect time, really. It was late at night, most of the village asleep. Her voice was croaky from waking up a bit before. She talked in a calm manner, she didn’t wank to startle him before she big shock itself.

 ”But I think I know why.”

    She sucked in her lower lip and bit it. She was unsure of how he would react, but she had already said too much to play it off. The blonde looked dead into Hiccup’s eyes with a staid expression and took a deep breath. 

"I’m pregnant."

         Pregnant.

Astrid was pregnant. His wife was pregnant. There was another human being inside her. A tiny little baby. Their future son or daughter.      

     The woman he's been in love with, the woman he had married because he loved her so very dearly. They were having a child.               

        Very slowly, the young viking chief cupped a cheek of hers with the hand he was once holding hers, stroking it with his thumb as if he was afraid to break her, even though he knew she was one of the strongest women he had ever met.      

             Hiccup finally found his breath again.          

                    He let out a sigh, which came accompanied with a gentle smile.     

                           A single kiss was pressed against her forehead by him.    

                                     Soon, tears started streaming down his cheeks.  

                                                      Soft laughter could be heard.                   

         Hiccup was going to be father.       

            «Dear Gods, you're pregnant.»

   Hiccup raised the mug, and then with just a few gulps, he emptied the the mug, leaving not a single drop of the medicine she had made for him.      

           «Do you think you also have something against burns? I would need it for Gobber. Good old man had a small accident yesterday while fixing the teeth of a Monstrous Nightmare. Whiiiich was kind of funny.»
