                     A  SENSE  OF  CALM  returns  to  him  when  diana's  lips  press  against  his  temple   &&   her  laughter  is  like  music  to  his  ears.  a  spell       ━━        he  should  have  known.  it  was  not  uncommon  these  days  for  diana  to  test  the  limits  of  her  magic.  of  course,  her  skill  was  something  matthew  aches  to  see  her  develop.  however,  he  is  hesitant       ━━         afraid  to  unintentionally  cause  her  harm.  with  a  steady  gaze  matthew  watches  her  glide  across  the  room   &&   he  knows  what  he  must  do.     ❛    i'll  do  it,  but  i  refuse  to  be  held  liable  for  any  damage,    ❜     he  says  with  a  weary  smile.  reaching  across  the  table,  matthew  lifts  a  book  into  his  hand.  without  warning,  he  throws  the  book  at  diana   &&   the  moment  it  leaves  his  hand,  he  finds  his  eyes  have  closed.

                               WITH  A  DISDAIN  FOR  ATTENTION,  PRINCE  matthieu  de  clermont  requested  a  speedy  coronation.

                          the  passing  of  his  father  was  entirely  unexpected  &&  left  him   &&  his  mother  devastated,  but  the  queen  dowager  is  a  fierce  woman  &&  even  in  her  period  of  grief,  ysabeau  de  clermont  set  out  to  perfect  the  ceremony.  perfection  it  was          ━━          swift  as  matthieu  wished  but  still  as  extravagant  &&  ysabeau  liked.  it  was  an  impressive  event  but  the  celebration  that  followed  is  the  true  spectacle.  the  ballroom  is  full  to  the  brim  of  faces  matthieu  does  not  recognize  nor  care  for.  there  is  chatter,  congratulations,  &&  condolences.  amongst  all  these  faces  &&  voices,  there  is  one  person he  hopes  to  see  the  most.

                          queen  diana's  attendance  would  come  as  a  shock  given  the  tensions  between  their  kingdoms  &&  what  the  late  king  was  accused  of.  still,  matthieu  extended  an  invitation  nonetheless.  the  newly  crowned  king  believes  more  than  anything  that  his  father  was  innocent  &&  in  this  moment,  wants  nothing  more  than  to  begin  his  reign  with  low  tensions.

                          it  feels  like  an  eternity  has  passed  before  his  eyes  lay  upon  the  honey-haired  queen.  despite  this  being  all  he  waited  for,  matthieu  finds  himself  stalling.  it  is  too  late,  though,  as  she  has  seen  him  ungracefully  staring.

                          clearing  his  throat  &&  dismissing  himself  from  his  current  conversation,  K I N G  matthieu  strides  across  the  room  to  where  the  enigma  of  a  queen  stands.  a  low  bow          ━━          one  of  the  utmost  respect.      ❛      your  majesty, ❜   he  says  whilst  raising  his  head.      ❛      queen  diana. ❜    matthieu  speaks  thoughtfully,  eyes  travelling  across  her  fine  features.  an  ENIGMA indeed.

                          ❛      forgive  me,  but  your  presence  comes  as  a  surprise.  i'm  afraid  i  cannot  find  the  right  words  to  say. ❜
