My dog doesn’t really deal much with anxiety and doesn’t mind fireworks, so ymmv. But generally one thing I’ve had good luck with in keeping a dog occupied for a long time through freezing food/treats so it takes him a long time to get through the whole thing, plus the movement of licking is said to make dogs feel calmer. Like I will take a full can of my dogs food and put it in a tupperware container and then fill the rest of the container to the top with water and then freeze the whole thing. When I take it out of the tupperware the whole frozen brick can take up to 30ish minutes for him to get through.

Some people also recommend playing audio of fireworks ahead of time to sort of acclimate them to the sound, but I’ve never tried this myself so idk.

Thank you all for your suggestions I appreciate you so much!! We gave the dog (not our dog) gabapentin and trazodone before sunset and i turned on a white noise machine and made him a Hovel in the closet with his owner’s clothes and blankets and drew the blinds and it worked!!! I sat in the bedroom with him and watched TV and he slept through the fireworks!

#granted it was july 3 and the worst is yet to come but his owner’s partner came to get him for tonight so I think we will all be ok #including the dog

#no suggestion is too insane #a friend had to leave town for a family emergency and we have custody of her extremely large extremely anxious dog #worth noting also that this dog wants to snuggle when anxious and he smells. awful. also he is already baseline anxious esp when away from #his owner. and is terrified of fireworks. so.#seriously considering just trying to get as deep into the woods as possible but I have no camping gear #also my living and dining rooms need to be painted this weekend and I’m moving on Monday. lol.
