Btw, if someone is racist in the witchblr community, it's still racist even though it's on Tumblr.
Just because we're online, doesn't erase the fact that people can be and are racist still.
When BIPOC of the community are saying "This person was racist to me. This person harrassed me. This person makes the community feel unsafe for me to be apart of.", and you choose to write it off as "drama", you're part of the problem.
With that being said, I'm taking a page out of my friends book and I'm just blocking people who I know interact with racists.
Why?
Cause if you're cool with being friends with and interacting with someone WHO IS RACIST and perpetuate RACIST BEHAVIOR, then you're also fucking racist and not a safe space. :)
Do you, but do you all the way away from me.
I said wtf I said, and I'm not taking critique on this take.

You seem like you're more familiar with the broader occult community than my scholarly shut in ass. I'm curious. If there were a few lessons you wish you could drill into the head of every prominent social media occultist, what would they be?
Ohhh the number one thing I wish I could drill into the head of every aspiring occultist and magical practitioner is that CRITICAL THINKING IS YOUR FRIEND.
Study magic but keep fact-checking! If there's a claim in a book on witchcraft that should be able to be backed up by mundane sources, look for those sources. If they're not cited in the book, that's a red flag. If the sources you do find don't support the claim, that's another, bigger red flag. This is especially true with claims about history, science, medicine, psychology, anthropology, and religion.
Also, be wary of anything New Age. There's a pipeline to anti-science, eugenics, and racism there that runs directly through portions of the modern pagan and witchcraft communities and it's brightly painted with New Age buzzwords.
If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. If something seems geared to appeal to your emotions, especially that which seems formulated to make you feel special or "chosen" or to fire up some kind of righteous anger or feelings of superiority, you should immediately be suspicious of it.
If a source tells you to disregard science, modern medicine, or recorded history, or tries to tell you that some people are inherently more special or magical or deserving of power than others, discard it immediately. That is a bad source.
Don't believe everything you see or hear online. Too many witches roll their eyes at their parents and grandparents believing everything they read on Facebook, then turn around and insist that everything they've seen on TikTok or Tumblr or YouTube is Absolute Truth.
Believing in and studying magic does not mean that common sense goes out the window. You should be supplementing your magical studies with parallel practical topics (i.e. botany, geology, chemistry, mythology, etc) and ALWAYS keep one foot squarely planted on the ground.
(Also fact-check your shit before you pass it along. And that goes double for anyone claiming to be an influencer or educator.)
Got this sent to me by my wife via discord so apologies there's no credit to OP!

One of the greatest witchcraft lessons I have learned in my twenty plus years of practice, is that the more 'intermediate' and 'advanced' witchcraft is indistinguishable from beginner witchcraft. Returning to and maintaining the basics, as with any craft (i.e. music, writing, art etc) is really the better part of it. The simple, seemingly benign acts within the practice, the routine and seeming monotony, they maintain the depth you reach as you grow in your practice.

May Apollo, bearer of the silver bow, strikes all the generative AI data centers with his arrows.
Next I'm going to curse everyone pretending to be a POC on a sockpuppet account that they have interact with main to try and convince people that they're not racist

Anywhere you want me. "
I also got a suggestion to draw Hermes Psychopompos, my favorite aspect of Hermes.
I think at bare minimum all medical professionals need to make sure they are treating patients with more kindness and respect than grifters. if you go to a doctor and they treat you like shit, humiliate you, and send you home without any information on your body or access to treatment, then health-grifters' offers will start to feel more tempting by simply giving the most basic performance of taking you seriously and caring about your well-being. grifters should be condemned for manipulating and exploiting sick people, and doctors also play a role in whether grifts thrive or are successfully identified and rejected. genuine baseline human respect, and beginning a relationship with a patient by earning (rather than demanding) trust, goes a long way.
My hottest take that people hate is that everyone deserves the chance to improve themselves and seek redemption, and spiritually speaking everyone deserves love. Yes even those people. Yup, them too.
Note that I did not say anyone is required to forgive them. Just that they deserve a chance at redemption.

A rare hot take from me - If you have to algospeak about a topic like death or sex, or around words like blood or menstruation, you have no business making those topics a focal point of your practice. I don't really interact with occult or spiritual communities outside of Tumblr, but I've seen folks here and on other platforms say things like "s*x magic is the most powerful magic I've ever done" or "I've started doing bl00d magic."
So much of my practice centers around death, dying, and caring for the spirits of the dead. I can't imagine not using the actual words and instead using "d3ad" or "π²-ing". If a topic is important, powerful, vast, etc. enough to be a central tenant of your spiritual or magical practice then it deserves to be spoken with the real words.
I don't care what platform you're on. Do not comply in advance.
Happy Lughnasadh and blessed harvest season. Demeter be praised! πΎ
