"...My name? Gooey? Maybe?" -

I remember early on in Apologies AU writing something like, "Well, pro~bably what makes Gooey slightly different from the other hosts is that maybe Gooey was a baby??"

At the time, I didn't think Noir was the one to kill him. 

I thought that maybe Gooey was a victim of Dark Matter in some other fashion. Maybe there was a mass planetary sweep after Noir's little murder spree to polish off the rest of humanity?

But...when I thought about how Noir as DMS raised Gooey and how the two were like brothers, I realized Noir HAD to be the one to do it.

Still...who kills a baby in their cradle?! Noir is desperate, but he's not a monster killing for kicks. He loathes what he's been cornered into doing, though it doesn't stop him.

And then it hit me.

Gooey wasn't just a baby...Gooey wasn't even born yet. Once Noir makes the decision to get Adeleine off planet before his own time runs out, he lets nothing stand in his way. 

A pregnant woman should not be a threat to him.

...But Noir is small and sickly and weak. He is still (...barely...) human. And that means he is still vulnerable to being killed before he completes his goal. Even with the powerful Dark Matter Blade, surprise remains his best advantage against those larger, tougher, more prepared and better armed than him. And...he has a lot of people left to kill before he can secure Adeleine's escape.

As much as it sickens him, he truly cannot afford to spare his heart further damage by letting anyone see him and live...
