Saw a comment on either reddit or youtube, detailing a theory that clark actually went and killed barbara, since the screen turns to black, when he went to visit her at his house.
I dont like the theory that Clark killed his wife because it doesnt make sense narratively to me tbh. Her being alive but absent is very important to his character, and thinking he just randomly killed her at the beginning of the movie undermines his whole character arc and decent into madness.
