My own thoughts that existed before the reading. I also think that it's congenital (I'm not a doctor in any way, so these are simply an opinion)

1. He lied to much about the reasons of the deformity (a. war injury, b. street fight consequences, c. (the last version) result of the child disease)

2. When I was examining the photos of people with clubfoot from osteomyelitis I noticed:

a. that not only leg is usually affected (but mabe Joe was just a lucky one?),

b. the thigh of affected leg usually look thinner than on the healthy one. The photos of JG's dead corpse show that both of his thighs look perfectly fine. Only the shin of the leg look thinner - as if his right calf had never worked to move his right foot (and they didn't as it was turned sideways and he basically couldn't use it properly - only as some sort of a peg leg (SORRY))
