After Heather loses her hair, she’s isolated. Everyone knows she’s mean and untrustworthy and cruel. She thinks she’s ugly and knows she’s hated, constantly lashing out at anyone who approaches.

Eva, the strong woman who has canonically thrown hands with Sasquatch, could care less. Through sheer force of will, she manages to keep Heather company. (Think getting a cat accustomed to you via exposure therapy.) After days of simply taking meals next to her and grunting as a stand in for actual communication, Heather allows Eva to help shave her head, even out the patches she couldn’t reach by herself.

Eva is everything Heather is afraid of. She’s obviously a woman, but she’s strong. Masculine. She has a unibrow; she only wears athletic clothing- she is “ugly”. But that is what allows her to get close to Heather. She couldn’t care that Heather is bald- that wasn’t what makes her ugly, just like how her hair never made her beautiful. Heather’s intelligence, wit, and cutthroat attitude makes her beautiful, something a lack of hair could NEVER take away, even when thoroughly defeated and humiliated.

Eventually, Eva tells her this. She tells Heather in the Playa Des Losers, when everyone’s at a pool party thrown by Geoff with glowsticks in the pool and there’s punch and fun and laughter, but instead Heather is alone in the hotel kitchen, sobbing. She’s never felt so alone, even when she was fat and pimply in middle school.

Today's prompt is Favorite short fic (< 2000 words), and OH BOY DO I HAVE RECS!!!

I could've picked any fic included in the All-Stars: Behind the Scenes series since they're all oneshots under 2000 words, but i picked the Ex-Fangirl and the Ex-Con since it's a Sierra character exploration and i love those :p also Duncan is there and doesn't suck so bonus points for that 👍

Next, i'd recommend the fic Fairytales (to tell yourself), which is a pre-series character exploration of Ella and GOD i love it. We need more of this. I really like the specific take on Ella of her playing the princess character as a form of escapism or in this fic's case, a metaphor on the attitude she adopted to fit in. I want to give her a hug in this fic so badly

Here's another Pahkitew fic, a really short one called It Should've Been, an exploration of Jasmine's feelings on Sammy's elimination after A Blast from the Past, featuring Scarlett at the very end. It's pretty dang good!

Im super happy this one fits under this criteria, I wanna be your girlfriend is one of two heatheva fics on ao3 and definitely the one i like more! Basically, Heather includes Eva in her alliance arrangement as a sort of fake girlfriend. Neat idea, and im very glad to see one of my rarepairs getting a fic :D

Speaking of rarepairs i like, Concern is a justowen fic that takes place during action, and also includes Lindsay as a major character. I like how both Justin and Lindsay are written in it!

FINALLY (god this post is getting long), Drop the (Killer) Bass is a fic in @henke-penke's rewrite of Island which involves a friendship forming between their rewritten Sadie and Harold. It's really sweet, in general it convinced me Sadie and Katie would love rave music :p
