You’re supposed to take a second if life is going well, to enjoy it and not just move on with the rest of your day worrying about the next thing. And it’s a really trite point in some ways. But it’s bizarre how little I had done it at various points in my life.

I got a very very nice text [from Alicia] a couple of days ago - she’d seen Brooklyn and was lovely about it, as she always is about everything, very supportive…. We keep in touch. I think she’s one of the very special ones. There’s a few actors around at the moment who are just really really special. Saoirse’s one, Alicia certainly, another Carey Mulligan - these people who [you’re] always excited to see what they do. And Alicia’s one of those, absolutely. She has that voracious appetite for creating new characters that I just find really exciting. When you do interviews for movies, all the interviewers want you not to be a robot. “It was fun making the movie. I liked the script. I liked the actors.” They want stuff that proves that you’re more than the automaton that’s been answering all the other questions in the exact same way. But I try and keep as much as I can personal, because I don’t figure it’s anyone’s business. I’m not on social media. My friend emailed me yesterday that somebody was pretending to be me on Twitter and had become friends with people who I knew.
