But even more than that, I’m getting really emotional about nasa letting 1D film at that facility. The first band ever to be allowed to film there.

There are ongoing debates over a) nasa’s funding (because anything that isn’t direct military spending is a Waste to a large swatch of our congress) and b) getting women in STEM programs. This video, which depicts the boys interacting with cutting edge technology, a lot of which is still in development, opens up what NASA is doing right now to a huge new audience. The VAST majority of which are young girls.

Hi ! Here’s my long overdue /thank you/ to the fandom’s authors. (I’ll try to keep this short but that’s not something I’m really good at !)

I’m not a native English speaker. Fours years ago, I went into a two-years school that was basically a preparation for a competitive entrance exam. Details don’t matter but what you need to know is that those years are really intense study-like and at the end you have to sit exams for all your subjects (written and oral). At the time I was average in most subjects and pretty awful in English (one of the three most of the class)… Which is far from being enough to pass the exam ! I used to read a few fanfictions in my native language but even just taking those short moments for myself were making me anxious because I felt like I should be studying. I was watching all of my movies or TV shows in English but that wasn’t working for me. So I decided to try and read something in English, see if I could understand. When I read my first One Direction fanfic in English I would look for a word in every sentence… My grades improved a lot, at the exams my grades where among the best in my class. I passed my entrance exam 90% thanks to my English grades. It also allowed me to take time off from studying ‘properly’ without feeling guilty… And I really needed it ! Afterward I made a bad choice and went into a specialised school that wasn’t at all what I was expecting. I was living far from home, pretty lonely and unhappy. Reading some of the amazing fics there are in this fandom was my get away from it all. Sometimes talking with the authors in the comments was my only human interaction of the day… I got out of this school and into a much better one (no soul my English grades helped me to get in !).

Today I’m pretty happy with my life. I keep on having fun reading fanfic, I’ve met awesome people in this fandom, and I’m planning to live in England in three years…

So I know some people feel like One Direction changed their life, they didn’t change mine, you guys did. And for that I’ll always be infinitely grateful. So thank you to all of you, fic writers and people who takes the time to interact with non native speaker. You are amazing and very much loved !

(Even if my English improved a lot, it’s still far from perfect ! So I apologise for any mistake^^ Don’t hesitate to tell me if you see some !)
