okay quick update about me~
hello all! i've missed you!
i'm going to be on my computer for the first hour or so of the party so i will have gifs then but any replies until after 11 PST will be from mobile and probably not consistent considering the fact that i will be slinging paint at people at a friend's partyΒ
alrighty then
I've been secluded in the confines of the backstage area for too long. I feel like I've missed so much- does anyone care to fill me in?

Arthur swallowed. "Alright.I should warn you though; I'm not a good dancer. Or even a halfway decent one." He stood all the same and helped Hazel to her feet. "I'll try my best though."
"Don't worry. As I told you before- as long as you can keep rhythm, we'll be fine." She smiled as she took his hand, gently pulling him to an open corner of the dance floor. Luckily enough for them, the music slowed to a waltz. The familiar music brought a rush of happiness to Hazel, and she grinned at Arthur as they began to move.

Arthur drained the last of his glass. "I'm alright," he said, "Glad I finally got to come to one of these. It's fantastic, and people are telling me that in the past, its been wilder still!" He cleared his throat, then somewhat awkwardly added as afterthought: "Β I'm glad to find someone I know.Β You look very pretty tonight, Hazel." Immediately, he regretted it. Would she think he was flirting with her? I mean, she was of course beautiful, but he was only trying to be polite. Feeling himself blush, he stared at the table until he could calm down.
"Yes, today seems a bit quiet. Summer is winding to a close, so people may be a bit more preoccupied." Hazel smiled at his enthusiasm. She took another sip of her champagne, draining the glass. She rarely drank, but tonight she needed to detach herself from the realm of sobriety. She blushed profusely as he complimented her, replying with "You look rather dashing yourself, Arthur." It looked as if he was blushing as well, and Hazel found that slightly endearing. She smiled softly. "Would you like to join me for a dance?"

A Melancholy Birthday Celebration || Open
Still scanning the crowd urgently, Arthur was glad when his eyes finally settled on someone he had actually met: Hazel Nash. She was sitting at a table, apparently alone at the moment, and looked a bit distracted. Arthur decided to go sit with her for a little. "Hello, Hazel. What are you thinking about?"
The figure materialized into Arthur Rancoff, one of her newer neighbors. "Oh, hello to you too," she smiled as he joined her. "Just remembering, I guess." She struggled to find the correct words. "How have you been?" she inquired. It was easier for her to move the topic off of herself.
A Melancholy Birthday Celebration || Open
It had been five years to the day that the letter arrived at her mother's house in New Orleans. She could still picture the day clearly- hot and sunny, her mother collapsing with the crumpled paper in her hands. Hazel prying it out from her grasp and reading it, the weight crashing down onto her.Β
Mrs. Nash- We regret to inform you that your husband, Graham Nash, died in battle this week. His service was honored and he shall be deeply missed. Our condolences and prayers go to you and your daughter.
Hazel shook herself out of her reverie. She was sitting at an outdoor table, the guests of Gatsby's most recent party swirling around her. She took a sip of her champagne and scanned the faces to see if she could find anyone she knew. Today would be a celebration, she had decided. No longer would she allow this to cloud her mind. She took another sip of her champagne, and through the glass she could see a distorted figure approaching her table.Β
I'm eagerly awaiting yet dreading this Saturday's party.
Oh, God, no, itβs all right, I just needed to wrap my head around it all. That must beβ¦soβ¦[thinking of the word] confusing! And I donβt mean that in a bad way, or anything like that, but it must be hard.Β
[looking at her for a while, Camillaβs eyebrows raise] Hang on! You look familiar, terribly familiarβbut Iβm not exactly sureβdo you know the Ziegfield Follies?
I certainly has caused me some emotional turmoil in the past. [laughs lightly] I've learned to sort of block it all out of my mind, and that technique has worked so far.
Why, yes. I'm a dancer with the Follies. [she smiles] It's still a bit odd being recognized from it. Though I suppose that it's a good thing.
I'm eagerly awaiting yet dreading this Saturday's party.
[opens her mouth to reply, then closes it, blinking in confusion] Birthday? What birthday? Where did that come from? Is it your birthday as well?
[sighs slightly] Yes, I turned twenty one on Wednesday. I don't generally celebrate it, and you can understand why. [smiles sheepishly as if to apologize for confusing her]
I'm eagerly awaiting yet dreading this Saturday's party.
Oh. Oh, Iβm so sorry. What if you, um, donβt? Donβt go to the party, I mean?Β
Typically I would, but I figured that I should at least try to get out and about this year. Start fresh, and celebrate my birthday while I'm at it. Be happy.

I'm eagerly awaiting yet dreading this Saturday's party.
Is that the only reason you were dreading it though? You just seemed awfully worried.
Well, Saturday is the fifth anniversary of my father's death. It's not exactly a happy day, generally.
I'm eagerly awaiting yet dreading this Saturday's party.
Yes, itβs all true [sighs, scratching her head] Iβm just hoping he spices things up a little more this time. Hiya, Hazel, Iβm Camilla.
I certainly hope so. I just have this feeling that it'll be the bees knees, though.
Lovely to meet you, Camilla.
I just realized that Hazel and Theodore's birthdays are on the same day (August 14th), and since that was two days ago, Hazel's going to celebrate during the party tomorrow.
I'm eagerly awaiting yet dreading this Saturday's party.
Now why might that be?
It was my birthday a few days ago, so I'm excited to celebrate that, but Saturday is the fifth anniversary of my father's death. Or at least when we got word of his death.

Hopefully it isnβt as boring as it was last Saturday. Did you attend that one?
I was unfortunately unable to go. From what I heard, it was good that I missed this one rather than any of the others.
I don't believe that we've met before. I'm Hazel Nash.
I'm eagerly awaiting yet dreading this Saturday's party.
It's an odd combination and I'm not too keen on it.Β
