I was a teenager when Switched At Birth first came out, and I loved the show. I’m twenty-three now, and I still love it, but also. . .wow, wow, wow, there’s an uncomfortable number of CANON relationships between adults and minors. To be clear, one would be bad enough, but we have:
Bay x Ty (started off when she was 15 and he was nineteen, then she was 17 and he was 21) Daphne x Jeff (16/17 and 30-something) Daphne x Jorge (17 and presumably late 20s) Daphne x Campbell (17 and 21) Bay x Tank (17 and 20-ish)
What the actual hell were the writers thinking? The relationships are bad enough, but what really upsets me is that almost none of them were frowned upon in the show; Jeff got punched in the face by Angelo, and it was well-deserved, but no one called the cops.
“God does not love one race more than another. His doctrine on this is clear…I assure you that your standing before God is not determined by the color of your skin…Today I call on our members everywhere to lead out on abandoning attitudes and actions of prejudice.”
— Russell M. Nelson
The prophet said racism is not only lame, it’s unacceptable. And it has no place in God’s kingdom.

Are you willing to let God prevail in your life?
President Russell M. Nelson
My mom’s getting bent outta shape about me liveblogging during General Conference because I “might miss something important”. But she’s literally left the room at least three times, at one point was straightening her hair, and now is painting her nails. So. If anyone’s not paying enough attention to conference, it’s not me.
I love elder Anderson’s approach to this. don’t be preachy, don’t try to logic people into anything.
Just don’t hide your belief. If Jesus is a big part of your life, acknowledge that the same way you acknowledge other things you love.
I agree! There’s a big difference to ram-rodding your beliefs down other peoples’ throats and just. . .not being shy about them. I would tell my non-member (and sometimes non-Christian) friends about church, and explain it the best I could, but I never once was like “YOU NEED TO COME TO CHURCH SO I CAN SAVE YOUR SOOOUUUL.” And ya know what? They were a lot more receptive to hearing about it when I was just chill, and matter-of-fact, because they respected that it was part of my life, and an important part at that. People are much more willing to listen when they don’t feel like your religion is being forced upon them.
So my mom just used some sort of demonic, growling voice to say “UNFRIEND THEM” when Elder Andersen was trying to give good advice about what to do when social media friends don’t wanna hear about religion. This is the woman who raised me, y’all.
My mom laughed at me because I finished the Scripture Mastery verse Elder Andersen quoted: Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not. I mean, she was more laughing because I was mildly peeved about it, but in my defense, I don’t remember many of those verses, so when I do, I’m proud of myself, and I wanna hear the whole thing!!!

While we endure a season of socially distancing ourselves from those we love, we need NEVER endure a season of spiritually distancing ourselves from He who calls 'come unto me'.
Elder Neil L. Andersen

You heard this sweet apostle. Love converts, love those who are struggling with the gospel, love those who were raised differently than you. Meet them where they’re at and help them along the path as they find their footing. Be the angel that they’re praying to Heavenly Father for.
The Lord is aware of the challenges you face. He knows you. He loves you. And He will send angels.
Elder Carlos A. Godoy

I always love when we have GA’s talk about their conversion to the gospel, whether it was how they found their own testimony while being raised in the church, or how they found it later in life. It’s really comforting to be reminded that we’re kind of all converts. We all need to find our own testimony, and sometimes it’s a journey. Faith doesn’t come easily to everyone, and that’s okay, so long as we keep trying, keep searching.
Okay, admittedly, I lost focus for a minute so I might be misinterpreting his meaning, but I feel like Elder Soares is basically saying intrusive thoughts are just Satan, and you can just pray them away…like, sure, sometimes, but sometimes THEY’RE JUST THERE.
I felt like he was saying that there is a difference between thoughts that “sometimes penetrate your mind” and the thoughts that you dwell on and give more power. I have intrusive thoughts too so I actually really appreciated that distinction.
