A truly good person is good for the sake of it, because it’s in their nature. Not for the praise or love of others. If you’re only a nice person when you have something to gain, you’re not actually a nice person.

Once I said something to the effect of “he’s more impressed with himself when he calls you beautiful than he is with you” as some sort of statement towards the self-serving nature of compliments from men. This is especially true when you are not conventionally beautiful, in whatever way that means to you. The exchange then becomes “I can see beauty in you” carrying the implication that other men cannot, and you are supposed to thank him for completing such a strenuous task.

I mean like Lush said in Ladykillers “when he’s nice to me he’s just nice to himself, and he’s watching his reflection”

tbh it makes me really uncomfortable when fans ship real life people with each other in a completely serious way, like I understand when it’s a joke because “lol they’d be so cute together they’re in love ha ha ha” can be fun, but when people are legitimately coming up with theories about how married people are totally having an affair and each little glance and touch they share completely proves that they’re in love with each other it’s like??? hmmmm???? no thanks save that for the fiction pls
