Younger me loved just dance. We played it all the time as a family, mostly JD1-3 as that was all we had on the wii. Come 2014 and my grandparents move away and buy some games for their wii to keep littler me entertained. This is in about 2015, so I was still quite young.

One of these games was JD2015, which is still my favourite just dance game to this day. It was one of the ways I got into 1D (see: best song ever being in the game) but more importantly there was a certain song called She Looks So Perfect.

Alongside Problem and Best Song Ever, SLSP was mini me's SHIT. I always played as coach 2 (still do) and realized that Hey, this song is.. kinda fire... I like it.

I kept playing it a bunch and around this time we started watching the 4Music and BOX radio channels on the telly before school. This is how I realized 5SOS was a conscious group and not just the people who made my favourite just dance map, because I got introduced to Don't Stop. Bear in mind, my only social media access was a few games on my dad's phone and cookie swirl C at this point and for a while later so I didn't realize I could watch music videos other than on tv before school.

When I first heard Don't Stop, it became one of my favourite songs, above SLSP. Even by 2021 (this was 2016-ish) it was still a favourite. I found the music video reeeally funny and loved it. But then you have to remember I was hardly a conscious brain at this point so I never came across SGFG until I rediscovered them.

I don't remember when but my dad started to let me control the music in the car. It was my favourite thing, although I always managed to sneak songs from self-titled in there too. It was a weird concoction of songs I found from just dance, to be fair, but I always felt inclined to listen to a little more 5SOS. It was the first time I felt extremely inclined to listen to a specific artist (fuck, i think im getting a little emotional), so I guess you could say they were my first ever favourite band. All because of just dance, really.

(I just want to say that somehow, at some point, I came across What I Like About You, which I really don't remember doing but hearing it on my alexa this year rekindled something. I remember it but I don't know how. It was probably from me putting random ass 5SOS on in the car, so that's why I'm putting that here)

And then, Youngblood came out. Yet another song to add to my roster of stuff to mindlessly play in the car, but now my dad was indoctrinated too. Around 2019, I have a vivid memory of nearly making it back to my house after going to tesco and thinking ″Woah, these are these same people as SLSP.. They've come so far, now they're all youngbloody. That's really cool.″. Baby's first time realizing what an album and by proxy an era is. I discovered so much about music thanks to these guys, it's crazy.

I was a gacha kid by this point, so I found out about teeth. Don't Stop was still my favourite song of theirs but teeth awoke something within me. It was fucking awesome. But I wasn't conscious of CALM when it came out, because I was busy having a danganronpa and fnaf phase.

2022 was the death of 5sos in my conscience. I mean, I still listened to teeth a few times, but probably once. I started listening to the worst music my taste has ever covered and I still cringe thinking about it. Such a downgrade. And 5sos was nowhere to be seen in my mind anymore.

I'm not gonna talk about my taste after that because really, who cares? This is a 5sos blog. When I first got tiktok in 2023, I saw a few videos of the 5SOS show but paid no notice other than thinking ″Hey! It's them! They've come so far! (ring a bell?).

But it's relevant to say that after starting to listen to McFly in late late 2023 I made a few mutuals on instagram.

That doesn't matter until MARCH 31ST THIS YEAR where one of those mutuals reposted videos about the everyones a star tour. This was when I heard everyone's a star (the song, and holy fuck it started playing as i typed that). I thought it was INSANE, and I admit in my head I called it a slutanthem because it sounded, as I said, INSANE. I immediately listened to the album and, yeah, INSANE. Then I realized that this was the same 5SOS that carried my 2010s and were my first ever favourite band. They always ended up finding me again.

I told my dad I started listening to them again, and he said ″No way, I remember them! I love 5 es-oh-es! They're brilliant!″. And I love that my love for them was so significant that my family remembers the time I spent listening to them as I grew.

And now they'll remember me finding them again. And I'm truly so thankful for that mutual's reposts, because what on earth would I be doing right now otherwise? I mean I'd be mourning less because these boys love america, but think about it on a larger scale. Do it on my behalf because all the typing ive done is numbing my mind.

But thank you, 5SOS, for finding me again and capturing my heart (bro is not shakespeare) once more. You're so important to me, both now and ten years ago. Just don't ask about what happened between 2022 and 2025.
