Merry Christmas, stranger! Santapollon may not know you personally, but it didn't stop him from anonymously leaving a large container of brownies on your doorstep, in addition to a large rawhide for your canine companion. 'Tis the season for giving, after all!
Hawke had nearly stepped on and tripped over these gifts, but gladly, both remained unharmed.
The man couldn’t resist stuffing a brownie in his mouth before even getting the box inside the flat. Meanwhile, Shepard took the time to trot about in the street for a minute or two; just the prospect of getting to enjoy such a wonderful treat put a new spring in her step!
With the rawhide clamped firmly in her mouth, she made her way back to the door to follow her master inside, only to have the ends of such a large goodie bounce off the sides of the door frame and block her entrance. She stared for a moment, then sat.
A persistent whine ensued until Hawke reached back outside to turn the rawhide at a ninety degree angle so that his poor dog could come back inside. “There’s a good girl.”
"Perhaps, however…"
He leans forward with his chin resting on the back of his hand.
"Tell me truthfully: did the thought cross your mind?"
The mage could smell a pitfall like this a mile away. Hawke immediately leaned on his second most reliable weapon after his magic-- semantics.
"What, of suggesting an outfit? Or actually picturing the one they gave you? Either way, miles of ribbon, enough to strangle an Orlesian noble!"
"If it was you who suggested that, then I must say that I should have expected it."
"Not to mention that such a thing would never occur even in your dreams."
"Why, it's almost as if you don't know me at all, Fenris. I've nothing but the utmost respect for my friends."
"Really, though, I had nothing to do with that."

"Well Hawke, never let it be said that you can’t surprise a man." The sarcasm is strong in this one.

A short summary of Dragon Age II
coming to terms | intro
Sasuke chuckled just a little. Too true, there was no way these dragon lords could keep tabs on all of them at once. Otherwise he wouldn’t get away with nearly as much of the poking around he did. Not that it mattered now, not when they were still in the central part of the city.
"Fair enough. Then again, you don’t exactly look like someone they’d want to mess with." New or not, a guy with a decent show of armor and the right demeanor could be deterrent enough. It was plenty that Sasuke would at least remain cautious, had he been of the mind to start a fight in the first place.
At the same time, not everyone in the city was exactly smart enough to consider things like that. He’d seem more than a few such idiots in his wanderings. Sigh. What a waste.
"The name’s Sarutobi, by the way." Might as well make some show of manners, he supposed. This guy seemed all right, besides. "Just a friendly neighborhood shadow."
"I could say the same for you, you know. Of course, there's always going to be the odd one out who hates you and everything you stand for and thinks it's their lucky day." Sarutobi? It must have been of a foreign tongue, but at least then it would be easy to remember.
Garrett flashed his winning smile, crooked as a bent pin. "Call me Hawke. Professional fly in the ointment." Now it occurred to him that here, chances were that nobody knew who he was. And if that turned out to be true, no one knew the full scope of what his name meant either. Maybe he'd feel the impact of it later, but for now it was little more than pleasant thoughts.
Suddenly he heard an alarming bark in the distance. Hawke turned his head to see Shepherd down the far street, making a beeline for them at full speed; her ears were back and her fang were bared. Well, this was bad.
"Er-- and that would be my dog. And she doesn't know you. You may want to duck."

there are men who struggle against destiny, and yet achieve only an early grave. there are men who flee destiny, only to have it swallow them whole. and there are men who embrace destiny, and do not show their fear. these are the ones that change the world forever.
It had been a long while since Hawke was able to enjoy a snowfall like this. Not since before we left Lothering, he thought.
Snow had been plentiful up high on Sundermount outside of Kirkwall, to be sure, but taking into account all the creatures there that wanted to eat him, as well as the wandering clan of elves that he wasn't sure wouldn't shoot him on sight, it wasn't his first choice of vacation spots. Here, the weather seemed to bring an air of stifled calm; it was unsettling, but not so much that it was enough to keep him from wandering out in it.
Hawke drew his cloak around his shoulders, taking in the expanse of stark white that blanketed the outskirts of the Den. A trail of large paw prints defiled the snow, courtesy of his hound, trailing far ahead of him. Shepherd could very well take care of herself, and the champion reasoned that she deserved a good romp.
As he watched her kick up the white stuff in the distance, a pair of golden, gemlike eyes peeked out from his fur hood. "I hope you haven't let the cold numb your sense of caution. You can't know for certain that no one is taking advantage of this makeshift peace to achieve their own ends."
"If I stayed cooped up inside all the time, I'd never get anything done," Hawke said, casually dismissing his dragon consort. "I know you're only looking out for me, but I'm no child." Though I don't doubt Aveline might say otherwise now and then, he mused. He heard a soft snort of derision near the nape of his neck, but no counterargument. The Champion felt a sudden pang in his chest; his friends had constantly been in his thoughts ever since he'd left home, but only now did he fully dwell on his losses.
"You worry about them? They'll be fine. They've grown infinitely during their time with you. They're no children either."
"You ask a lot of questions, don't you?"
"Naturally. I know vast amounts about this realm as I was brought into being for the sole purpose of connecting that information to my host. However, that makes you the variable. The more I know about you, the stronger and more beneficial our partnership will be."
"... I never could think of a name for you, could I? I think I'll call you Genitivi."
