Welllllllll I think I need a second day for the next calisthenics ficlet since apparently I needed to do quite a bit of canon review. On the plus side, a day spent re-reading most of Harrow the Ninth is hardly a day wasted.

as previously suggested: BG3, Candi, a (late-game or post-canon) conversation with her mother (or similar) <3
Title: Acceptable Expectations
Rating: Teen & Up, 1000 words Archive Warnings: None Apply Fandoms: Baldur's Gate 3 Category: F/F, Gen Relationships: Minthara Baenre/Tav (actually my PC Candi), Candi & Candi's mother Characters: Candi (Tav), Minthara Baenre, Candi's mother
Additional tags: Dinner with the fam, mother daughter dynamics, tfw your mom is less critical of your girlfriend than she is of you, even though your gf is a homicidal maniac, Minthara Baenre my problematic fave
Summary: "Perhaps, in that case, we should reconsider bringing weapons," Minthara had said, when Candi'd tried to warn her what dinner with her mother could be like.
__
Thank youuuuuu @greywash for this prompt that literally only you could have given me, hahahaha, fantastic. Additional context for everyone else, which I also give in the story notes: Candi is the player character in my current BG3 run, which is subtitled "murder girlfriends." She started the game as an insufferably upright Oath of Devotion paladin who, after sparing Minthara's life at the Grove and saving/recruiting her at Moonrise, became gradually seduced by Minthara's rhetoric of vengeance and power-hunger. At the point this story takes place she has broken her Oath, and she and Minthara, Evil Paladin Power Couple, are planning to wield the stones themselves and dominate the nether brain together for personal gain. I'm sure being joint dictators will work out great for them and they will live happily ever after. š ENJOYYYYYYY

Title: Caesura
Rating: Mature, 1200 words Archive Warnings: None Apply Fandoms: Star City Category: F/F Relationships: Tanya Mironova/Irina Morozova (one-sided) Characters: Irina Morozova, Tanya Mironova, glimpses of Sasha and Valya
Additional tags: Irina-centric, surveillance, masturbation, semi-public sex, misuse of office equipment, guess who's a piece of work?, it's Irina Morozova
Summary: Though unmoored, three a.m., you could stay in your bed.
__
Thank you @purereflectionsworld (and also @tiltedsyllogism) for prompting me to write about this new incarnation of my FAM fave Irina Morozova and her youthful obsession Tanya Mironova. I hope this weird little piece will not be the last.

For your writing calisthenics, Bertie & Honoria, chaotic besties edition... what would Honoria make of Madeline Bassett? Would she conclude that Madeline could be rendered more sensible by the right cause, the right reading, the right woman? Or would she, like Bertie, despair of a girl who observes out of a blue sky that the stars are God's daisy-chain?
Title: Better Men
Rating: Teen & Up, 1400 words Archive Warnings: None Apply Fandoms: Jeeves & Wooster Category: Gen, F/F Relationships: Bertie Wooster & Honoria Glossop, Honoria Glossop/Madeline Bassett (aspirational) Characters: Bertie Wooster, Honoria Glossop, Madeline Bassett
Additional tags: Bertie & Honoria: BROTP 4ever, Edwardian poetry slams, cw: Lord Byron, Bad poetry, Honoria: I can fix her, Bertie: well my friend there's definitely plenty to fix
Summary: "But this is bloody appalling," said Honoria, as Madeline lisped on about a large-eyed child in a christening gown. "Something must be done."

Thank you @oldshrewsburyian for this DELIGHTFUL prompt & to everyone else who has sent in ideas! I currently have fifteen prompts across seven fandoms, & am hoping to do one fandom a day this week so as to get the most variety. Though how I will ever choose amongst all the delicious TLT prompts I can't say...

Writing calisthenics - prompt me please!
Hello friends! Due to a conglomeration of life circumstances (mostly good, actually! Things are better than they have been in quite a long time! However:) I have been consumed by non-writing activities and have completely lost all momentum on any and all writing projects. *Sad trombone*
But! All is not lost. My workplace is shutting down for a week-long summer break, and I hope to use the time to stretch my atrophying writing muscles and get back in the game. My plan is to do a version of @greywash's old Spring Break Creative Calisthenics exercise: solicit prompts from y'all lovely people, on which I will attempt to write a ficlet a day and whip myself back into shape. Rules include: pre-planning is allowed, but no extending the composition window beyond a day.
This is where you come in: please help me in this endeavor by submitting prompts to my askbox! I will generally do better with prompts that are not super-specific: stick to a character or pairingādetails on welcomed fandoms & characters belowāand a broad scenario, kink, or just a word/concept. Examples: "Judith/Camilla/Coronabeth, trauma bonding, truth or dare," "Jaheira/Nine-Fingers, Plant Growth, erotic asphyxiation."
Active fandoms & the characters I feel capable of tackling in them (I want to steer clear of For All Mankind since the story I'm trying to return to is in that fandom & I'd like a palate cleanser):
The Locked Tomb books: any female characters, plus Palamedes. Particular soft spots for the Tridentarii twins, Camilla, Aiglamene, Gideon and Harrowhark. I am not as solid on the first-gen Lyctors or Edenites, but would be up for giving them a shot.
Star City: I am not caught up, LOL, but trying to get there by Monday! Soft spots for Irina, Tanya, & Roskova, and any sexual combination thereof, especially incorporating surveillance.
Baldur's Gate 3: Any of the female characters, with particular interest in Jaheira(/Nine-Fingers), Shadowheart/Lae'zel, and Minthara. Also love Karlach, although I have written quite a bit about her so might like to branch out.
Dragon Age 2: My DA OTP is Isabela/Aveline, and the character of my heart is Merrill. Would also be excited to spend some time with Cassandra and/or Varric. Doesn't 100% have to be in the timeframe of DA2, but my interest wanes the closer we get to Veilguard.
Georgette Heyer's Cotillion: Feel like I could pretty easily hop into a piece about the continued adventures of Freddy & Kitty, especially as they may involve Kitty falling enthusiastically in love with every beautiful girl who crosses her path, and sharing this information with Freddy.
Jeeves & Wooster: Big fan of buddies/frenemies Bertie & Honoria, and also of femslashing Honoria with any of the women who appear in this canon. (And I do mean "any." The weirder the better.)
Passchendaele universe: A long shot, but anyone who has read my original Passchendaele ficlets series and wants to prompt me on any of the pairings or characters therein, you would totally make my day!
Thank you, friends! Here's hoping I can jumpstart my writing brain over my week off. <3

It's funny how often Cassandra says "you're right" or "I agree" and then in the corner at the exact same time the message pops up "Cassandra disapproves". She's so mad that you're right.

pet peeve is when you look up fashion references from a specific era and you keep getting modern day '[era]-inspired' fashion like NO i want authenticity damn it. i can see your 2020 photo quality and your 2020 hair and your 2020 makeup. youre not fooling me.
hello i'm a historical fashion researcher and i have a lot of experience looking up things! this is a very widely experienced irritation and you're definitely not alone in this, but i am here to share everything i know!
so, ways to get around this:
turn off AI results. they're literally nonsense to us
don't use pinterest because the sources/provenance is often hard to trace
a standard internet search can be okay, but museum collections are the top tier (list of collections below this list)
instead of broad terms like victorian, regency, tudor, renaissance etc. try using the decade you're looking for. if you're not sure of what decade it is but have a vague image in your head, look on the fashion history timeline and just jump around until you find it. but even changing to e.g. 19th century will give better results than victorian
including terms like womenswear/menswear, daywear, formal wear, evening wear, court dress should increase the value of your search too
including "fashion plates" in your search can give you a nice impression of the intended silhouettes of the era. some of these might be a little stylised but will show you what was considered in vogue
for pre-fashion plate eras or things like makeup and styling, you'll have to look at portraiture or manuscripts. these are harder to actually find what you're looking for, but searching museum collections and limiting results to specific date ranges will be your friend
when looking at art, do bear in mind sometimes artists would paint fabric extra flow-y to show off their skills. it might not have been exactly like that in terms of fabric weight or drape. so, a pinch of salt required!
if you find something on image search where the provenance is dubious, reverse image search and you might find a source! i've been able to trace random pinterest images to real sources, but this does take a lot of time and effort and is often not worth the headache
some online resources and museum collections:
fashion history timeline is an invaluable resource if you're trying to get a feel for everything and should be your first port of call. it'll also link to good examples
the met has a vast number of extant examples of clothing, as well as fashion plates
costume institute fashion plates is a subcollection of the met for fashion plates (1800s-1922)
v&a also has many extant garments, fashion plates, and incredible articles on clothing and aesthetics. read the details of the objects because they'll often reveal a lot about the piece
lacma is good for C19th-20th pieces
nypl digital collection for photographs
national portrait gallery or similar for portraiture, or literally any museum in your country that has historical art
national museums scotland can be useful situationally but might be oddly specific
stout style history is a great collection for finding image references for fat people wearing historical clothes. survival bias of a lot of museum pieces tends towards smaller clothing that couldn't be repurposed, but this aims to counter that. it's not sortable, but is still a really nice resource
wikimedia commons is surprisingly handy! and the images, if you should need to link/repost them, are public domain
auction websites sound like a funny one to recommend. some won't have mannequins and some will. just look up historical garment auctions and you'll find some!
anyway, i hope this has been a good place to start for anyone interested! there are probably some i've missed because there are so many museums across the world and i don't know about all of them or can't remember them. but these are the ones i've used the most! (my specialisation/jobs i've had to research for have only really been in western fashion, so my resources reflect that)
Wikipedia has a list of fashion museums. Unfortunately, the page itself is only available in German, but the introductory paragraph is very short and after that, it's organised by country, and then it's a simple list. If you click on a museum's article, the website is usually linked in the overview table.
