Stuck In A Rut

I must admit that I was very frustrated with Wynnie yesterday. We were riding with my two coworkers, a total of three horses in the ring, and Wynnie was blowing up. We couldn't pass the other horses, the other horses couldn't come behind us, we couldn't go past the middle of the arena without running back towards the gate. I was so annoyed that I had to get off so I didn't agitate the ride further. I did, however, lunge her in side reins for about 15 minutes to get her to focus and to remove myself a bit. Then I got back on and got some vaguely more decent work out of her. It's driving me batty because on Wednesday I had the most lovely ride and then, with only a day off, it was like I was riding a completely different horse. Just a little consistency would be nice. What do you do when you have such a talented horse, but you just can't get good consistent work out of her?

Letters to My Horse

Dear Wynnie,

Thank you for being such a challenge and yet such a gentle soul when all is said and done. You'll never be a beginner's horse but you are kind enough to pack around on a lunge line with a rider who is less experienced than you're used to. You could teach a lot of people many things. She's Fresh

Today I lunged my coworker on Wynnie. I must say my coworker, despite protests to the contrary, had to have been a bit nervous. I don't think she was breathing while she was trotting at all. However, I was working with her on using her seat effectively to get Wynnie to change her length of stride and then changing gaits using her seat. She did phenomenally even when Wynnie was being a sassy pants. I'm super proud of my mare AND of my coworker who made a huge leap in her riding :)
