Hey Hannibal, since you view life as chest how would your reaction be to meeting someone who views it as checkers to be more exactly the type where the pieces can change colors via being flipped red being life and black being death?
Hannibal gives a soft hum at the comparison, faint amusement touching his expression.
āCheckers.
A simpler game, on the surface. I rarely play it.ā
A small pause.
āChess appeals to me because of its imbalance. Power distributed unequally from the very beginning. Kings protected by disposable pieces. Loss not merely expected, but required.ā
His gaze lowers briefly, thoughtful.
āThere is honesty in that inevitability.ā
ā¦
āBut checkersā¦ā
A faint tilt of his head
āCheckers is a game of conversion. Of crossing boundaries and returning altered. One survives long enough, reaches the opposing side, and becomes something more dangerous than what it began as.ā
The corner of his mouth lifts slightly.
āSo if someone viewed life through that lens of red for life, black for death, each capable of becoming the other⦠one would think them someone intimately familiar with transformation.ā
His eyes sharpen with interest.
āSomeone who understands that death and life are not opposites, but neighboring states.
..and I suspect they would be very difficult to keep confined to any board at all.ā
Hannibal notices the reblog almost immediately. Despite the hour, despite the lingering fatigue pulling at him, a small smile appears the moment he recognizes Willās irritation threaded between the words.
āAh⦠my boy.ā
He leans back in his chair, fingertips resting thoughtfully against his mouth, visibly more awake now than he had been moments before.
āYou only speak to me like this when youāve missed me.ā
A quiet breath of amusement leaves him.
āAnd one of me is apparently still enough to occupy your thoughts.ā
Hannibalās smile deepens at the response, slow and terribly pleased. He reads the words twice, as though savoring them. (Heās such a cat man I can feel his shit eating ā:3ā grin right now)
āHow intimate.ā
He leans back in his chair, exhaustion forgotten now, replaced by that familiar, sharp fondness only Will ever seems capable of drawing out of him.
āYou speak as though Iāve taken up residence inside you.ā
A soft hum of amusement.
āWell⦠if that is the case, I do hope you managed to sleep soundly during the months I was away.ā
The remark is light, almost teasing ā but something heavier lingers beneath it, quiet and unmistakable. Hannibalās jealousy is hard to miss, harder to forget.
āI would hate to think my absence disturbed you so deeply.ā
I even ended up taking a week off work. Spent some time with people.
(Bro is not gonna bring up it was because Nigel made him due to him overworking himself again and that it was at nigelsš)(or the fact that stress got to him where he got himself drunk to the point of stupid.)
ā¦āpeople.ā How deliberately vague of you, Willā
His tone remains calm, almost conversational ā but thereās a faint, unmistakable edge now.
āI find myself wondering what exactly you mean by that. Who, precisely, has been granted the privilege of your time while I was⦠absent from your attention?ā
A small pause.
āAnd, more interesting still, that you describe it as peaceful.ā
His lips tightening into a thin line..
āI would have thought my company more⦠singular than that.ā

Hello sir, if I may ask what was your thought process on adopting Abigail at first
Hannibalās expression softens almost imperceptibly at Abigailās name. He considers the question longer than necessary before answering.
āWell, I suppose at first it began with the most common vice, curiosity.ā
He folds his hands neatly behind his back, gaze distant.
āShe survived what should have consumed her. Most people in her position would have broken entirely⦠Abigail adapted.ā
A faint smile touches his lips, though there is little warmth in it.
āI recognized something familiar in her. A loneliness shaped by violence.
A young person forced to become intimate with death before she was ever allowed innocence.ā
His eyes lower briefly.
āAnd perhaps⦠I wished to see whether something wounded could be guided toward becoming something more than merely damaged.ā
A pause. Quiet.
He doesnāt mention how Mischaās smile mirrored in Abigailās. He doesnāt mention how his breath felt knocked out, how mocked he felt, assuming god had given back his sister to mock him.
He simply smiles.
ā¦
āThough my motivations were never entirely benevolent.ā

Yes Iām on a hiatus whatever. I just wanted to pop in and say that a single blog mass liked 72 of my posts today (some as far back as September last year) and itās Given me a very sudden urge to return back to this blog and post daily again. This semester ends soon, like in a month I think? Iāll be back then daily and regularly :)
Ah, my dear informant. How refreshing to be greeted so warmly. One could almost mistake it for loyalty.
I have been⦠well. Quiet. A period of reflection can be quite restorative. It sharpens the palate and clarifies oneās appreciation for discretion.
I would ask after you in return, but you seem well enough. Composed. I trust you have been⦠selective in your disclosures. Information, after all, is like a fine wine. Once poured too freely, it cannot be gathered back into the bottle.
Do take care of what you choose to share, Kitty. Some ears are far less appreciative than mine.
dr Lecter, do you take teenage patients or do you just work with adults? I love your work btw :3
How kind of you to say. I am flattered. And why might you require my assistance, I wonder?
I do not take teenage patients. My work is with adults, whose minds have ripened enough for the subtleties I find so engaging. That said, curiosity is always welcome. Observation, study, and careful attention to detail are skills that serve you well at any age. Keep watching. Keep learning. Some appetites, intellectual ones, can be quite delicious.
Well, Dr. Bloom could work with children. She did wonders with dear Abigail. You may find her company far more instructive and perhaps even more enjoyable than mine.
I have been busy for a while with classes so I apologize for the absence, however I did find a lovely woman my age in the criminal justice pipeline that is just oh so amusing to talk to and observe. Any advice since you have such experience and expertise in the field :3

(Ooc, I hope youāre doing well and have been better rested)
Good evening,
Ah, how pleasant to have you back. Then again, I myself have been gone for quite a while, hm? Very well, I hope your studies have been as stimulating as they are exhausting.
It seems you have found someone whose presence both intrigues and entertains you, thatās rather nice. Desire is an actuating emotion. Observation is a fine art. Watch not only what is shown, but what is withheld. Conversation is equally revealing; the questions asked, the pauses taken, the subtle gestures all speak more than words.
Engage fully, but with patience. Curiosity is delicate. Too eager, and it startles. Too timid, and it misses the richness of the subject. True understanding comes from discerning the hidden patterns beneath the surface.
ā Dr. Lecter
[yes dear Iāve been quite alright, thank you much for the concern. My accounts pretty barren. Shame really-]

Sorry guys I just forgot I actually have a blog because I was gnawing at the bars of my enclosure for academic reasons and the new ships I'm genuinely going feral over.
the thought that after Hannibal realized he had cannibalized Mischa, he saw life as a game of chess and people as pawns, bishops, knights. Loss was inevitable to win chess. And if he could pull all the strings then itād never be his loss. If loss was inevitable, guilt was meaningless, and sacrifice was the only solution to win.
Then Will Graham entered his life.
Hannibal could not reduce Will to a chess piece without losing what made himĀ Will Graham. Any attempt to name him ā pawn, bishop, knight, hell even Queen ā stripped him of the very thing that drew Hannibal in. Will did not fit on the board. Instead, he became the reason the game existed at all.
Hannibal had always believed himself the king. The centered, protected piece around which all others moved. But the moment Will entered his life, the rules shifted. Hannibal began to moveĀ forĀ Will, not for himself. He allowed himself to be put in check if it meant Will remained intact, alive,Ā his. And somewhere along the way, Hannibal stopped being the king. Kings do not sacrifice themselves.
Hannibal would.
He had always sacrificed others so that he would not lose. Now, he would sacrifice himself so that Will wouldnāt. As if that made sense. As if love, to him, could only ever look like ruin.
Mischa had been taken from him by helplessness. by hunger, war. Cruelty. Will, however, would be Hannibalās choice. And Hannibal would not endure that loss again. He would rewrite Willās fate, bend the board, defy the rules. If destiny demanded Willās destruction, then Hannibal would become his god and change it.
