Hossam Al-Qazzaz, his wife Hanan, and their four young children (Bashar, Hani, Diana, and baby Habiba) have been displaced again and again. For months they have endured bombardments, lived in a fragile tent, survived on scraps, and risked their lives just to secure the resources they need in order to survive. Recently, Hossam described navigating chaos and gunfire just to reach a foreign aid center—leaving at 2 a.m., dodging bullets, watching others die for food.

Now, what little fragile stability they have is crumbling again.

Hossam and his family are just 200 meters from the evacuation zone. Israeli forces have ordered mass evacuations in Khan Younis. With nowhere else to go, Hossam walked to the beach to scout a small patch of ground between the tents of other displaced families. He will move his wife and children there—closer to the sea, and further from any known safety.

“We’re being cornered,” Hossam wrote to us. "They’re pushing us all into a narrow strip on the coast.”

This is not just a crisis. It is a relentless and systemic stripping away of dignity, shelter, food, and hope.

I would like to confide in you a little, and I hope you will listen to me for a moment, if you please.

In light of the famine we are experiencing, we are faced with two choices. The first is to buy food available in the markets. Unfortunately, since food, especially vegetables, is very scarce, it is very expensive, and it takes a lot of money to buy one meal a day. Imagine that the cost of this meal is close to $50, and unfortunately, it will not be enough for anyone. Unfortunately, we have spent all the donations on buying food, and we are now without money. The second option is to go and collect aid from the aid distribution area in Rafah. This option is very risky. First, the aid is not enough for everyone who goes to receive it. What is happening is that thousands of people are rushing to try to obtain the food parcel, and even if you do receive the aid, it may be stolen by bandits. Second, anyone who goes there exposes themselves to arrest and, on occasion, to gunfire. I look at my young, hungry children. I look at my elderly father and mother. I look at my poor wife. I stand for a long time looking at my infant daughter, Habeeba, and I wonder what I should do.

Hunger has worn their bodies down.

First, I hope that some donations will come to us so that I don't have to go to get the food parcel that could end my life or return empty-handed. But what if I don't receive any donations?

In that case, I am forced to go, no matter the outcome.

Hossam Al-Qazzaz, his wife Hanan, and their four young children, are among the 80% of Khan Younis residents now ordered to evacuate toward the coast.

They are currently in Square 111, a region dangerously close to the so-called "evacuation zones" that are actively being bombed.

Hossam has shared that their area is expected to be targeted next—and they fear that when the next order comes, they will be forced to flee into even deadlier zones.

Last night (05/18/2025) was horrific. “We never imagined that we would be alive in the morning,” Hossam wrote. Now, with communications at risk of being cut off, Hossam has asked the world to share his message and pray for his family’s survival.

His hope is to find a path to safety, to protect his loved ones, and to stay alive long enough to rebuild.

Yesterday I collected enough money to buy milk and diapers for my infant daughter Habeeba, and we are very happy about that. Thank you very much for your donations and standing by our side, but now my thoughts have shifted to buying the needs of my sons Bashar, Hani, and Diana. As for the utmost importance, we are suffering from a lack of food and our inability to buy it due to the exorbitant prices. Also, in addition to the fact that they have no clothes at all, all their clothes were burned in the bombing of our tent on the first day of the truce. Also, we now do not have cleaning materials, mattresses, blankets, or a flashlight. We sleep every day with the flashlight of our mobile phone. In all honesty, we lack everything, and we do not aspire to provide all of that, but we want to have food for a day or two and a few of the basics that I mentioned previously. Hossam Al-Qazzaz, his wife Hanan, and their four children are among thousands of families in Gaza struggling to survive amid a deepening hunger crisis. With food aid cut off and markets nearly empty, the family lives on just a kilo (around 2.2 lbs) of flour, two tomatoes, and an eggplant each day—costing them around $70 daily to eat just one meal due to the level of inflation caused by supply and demand.

A full bag of flour now sells for $300–$500 due to the blockade, and over 50 days without aid deliveries (SOURCE). The UN has confirmed the food supplies in aid kitchens are almost completely depleted (SOURCE).

Imagine being born into a world where the first sounds you hear are explosions, the hum of drones, and the cries of your family fleeing for their lives. This is the reality for Habiba Al-Qazzaz, a precious baby girl who has known nothing but war, displacement, and hunger in her short life. Born in Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict that began on October 7, 2023, Habiba has spent much of her existence so far in uncertainty, hunger, and fear.

This precious little girl is not even a year old, and already, she has suffered through unimaginable hardship.

Her parents, Hossam and Hanan Al-Qazzaz, are doing everything they can to care for Habiba and her three siblings—Bashar (9), Hani (8), and Diana (4). But the relentless devastation of Gaza’s infrastructure has made survival nearly impossible. With no stable income and essential supplies priced beyond reach, the Al-Qazzaz family is fighting a daily battle just to keep their children warm, fed, and safe.

Their GoFundMe campaign has been their only lifeline, allowing them to afford the most basic necessities—food, water, milk for Habiba. Yet despite the thousands of people who have seen and shared their plea, donations have been coming in at a painfully slow pace. Since last year, they have managed to raise only €2,000, an amount tragically short of their €55,000 goal—the sum they had hoped would allow them to evacuate to Egypt with Hossam’s elderly parents and start anew.

As time passed and donations fell short, the family was forced to abandon their dreams of escape. Instead, they now live atop the ruins of their destroyed home, sheltered only by a fragile tent that does little to protect them from the cold, roaming animals, or the ever-present danger of violence. Their reality is bleak, and their options are running out.

On February 8, 2025, Hanan reached out to us with an update on her family's condition:
