Tsukasa is actually a manifestation of Hanako’s grief over killing him, however only he can see him and everyone is just really good at acting so he doesn’t feel like he’s nuts

Natsuhiko’s :3 face is actually because he’s a cat youkai, but he’s too much of a simp to remember

Sakura is not dead or a supernatural. She’s just failing in English and needed a break. Shenanigans ensue. 

Tsukasa’s kokujoudai are black because he dips them in soy sauce off-panel

Akane can’t actually stop time. He just moves very fast. He doesn’t realize it and Mirai and Kako think it’s hilarious.

Kou is actually secretly Tsukasa’s brother because they both have fangs

Yamabuki’s name is Lemon because he fell into a pool of lemon juice as a kid. That’s also why his hair is yellow

Amane lied about where his moon rock came from. Tsukasa is actually an alien and gave it to him because he saw how much Amane liked space

Aoi’s hair loopies formed when she got onion rings stuck in her hair. She couldn’t get them out and her hair grew around them. She just kinda went with the flow

Hanako was probably at his worst during Picture perfect arc, his expression honestly scared me and somewhat gave me Tsukasa vibes.

I usually don't describe him as "Yandere" because he is such a complex character, but that's the best word I have for him in these panels

(like, God gave him a second chance, but before being sealed he was like: “whatever the world and myself, I don’t care anymore so I won’t take this seriously”) in the past after the crime he committed, that’s why the others supernaturals kinda dislike or fear him? Cuz indeed in the past (as a ghost) he was dangerous, maybe in the same level as Tsukasa’s? And Kou’s grandma, instead of exorcising him, sealed him so he wouldn’t be so violent or strong (2/4)

(much power can make people crazy too, they think they can do anything), and showed him that he had another path even after death (salvation!). I mean, if the seal Hanako put on Kou’s staff prevents Kou from using all its power, maybe it’s the same with Hanako. And it made his hakujoudai white… huh. And perhaps that’s why Hanako fears Nene knowing about his past, not only about when he was alive but also about when he was dead!! (¾)

Look at his smile (if indeed is Hanako) in the page I’m talking about, pretty evil and reminds me of Tsukasa, doesn’t it? Or I’ve got it all wrong, but hey, theories are for that xD (4/4) and that’s it! Sorry that it was sooo long, but I got all excited to share my ideas 😅

Okay that’s really interesting that hakujudai is black :0 but purely because of the knife, I agree with you! It’s definitely Hanako before he was sealed!! And Hanako’s smile is rather creepy and Tsukasa-like!

Yeah, like Hanako had to be so powerful because Kou even says it took all his grandmother’s strength to be able to seal Hanako! And makes you wonder why she couldn’t just exorcise him—only seal him?? So that does make sense why he’d be the leader of the school mysteries—super powerful.

Although what’s interesting about Tsukasa is that it seems like it took him 50 or so years to be able to visit Hanako? With the way he was all like “long time no see!” And yet Tsukasa also has a seal on his face 🤔🤔

And yess omg the idea of Hanako being ashamed of his ghostly past!!! Now that would be really interesting!! And very angsty—because Nene thinks so highly of Hanako sort of like in the pilot, and calls him a good supernatural, but if he wasn’t originally good… 👀👀👀

Also I want to see Hanako’s seal removed and see him at his full power!! And maybe that will lead to us finally seeing his boundary!!

Something I found interesting is the phrasing from when Nene reads her book—“she enters a pact with a boy who *claims* to be school mystery number 7.” The claims part is sort of like 👀🤔🧐

Couple that with this panel—

— and the fact that the nana in Nanamine Sakura means seven…

Made him happy and surprised but at the same time maybe it also made him more determined to protect her, and keep her in that fake world. The next chapters it's so sad, when Shijima reveals Nene that his hope was that Nene could live in that fake world as in a happy dream forever, never having to know about her death.... feels :/ 2/2

Yess!! Nene never did get a chance to say yes or no to the date! Because Hanako runs away before she could answer!!

And right? Honestly this arc was such an emotional rollercoaster for Hanako. Like Nene literally says to him “he’s not here...the boy I like isn’t here.”

And Hanako is in such doubts that she could possibly like him—that he asks Nene “That...boy you like...is he the boy you keep saying is like me?” He needed confirmation that it’s him—that the person she really likes is him!

And for Hanako to have to leave her in this fake world—for the sake of protecting her—hurts so much because he just found out the girl he’s in love with likes him back!

And he has to leave her here knowing this fact :/ knowing that if he were alive, he could of had a future with Nene.

But the dead have no future, and he has to leave to so he can continue atoning for his sins, but at least Nene will be safe in this fake world without him—and as we learn—she’ll soon forget him.

Wait, omg is Amane trying to say he doesn’t want Nene to pay for him? Because it comes like right after this scene:

What if the story Hanako tells Nene and Kou about collecting all the colors of tags and your wish will come true—

Which we see Hanako say, “Well...It’s just a rumor” not only once—

But twice—we see Hanako say again, “And the color thing is still just a rumor.”

Twice he called it a rumor!! But then...who started this rumor?

It was Nene!

She started the rumor!

Because when she went back in time, she was the one who gave past! Hanako all her wish slips, and told him, “If you write your wish on all of those...and hang them on the big wish tree, your wish will come true.”

“It will absolutely come true!”

He seemed doubly surprised at seeing Nene again in the flashback when she's lost in the nowhere.

But then we do get some insight into Amane’s thoughts as he runs off—

Omg me too!! I wonder if we have to wait for Hanako’s boundary to see his past again or if Nene will somehow fall back into the past. And leaving something would be so interesting!

A short analysis of Hanako and Kou's interactions

—beware, this contains spoilers from the manga!

In the Young Exorcist Arc, after the confrontation with Teru. We see a quiet Hanako, his expression is quite unreadable. Kou noticed this and sat there beside him, asking him if he was still crying. We could tell that this concerned Kou.

The same goes for the Three Clock Keepers Arc. Kou sees Hanako sitting by the window sill, looking a little distraught. He offers him some candy and asks him if there was something wrong because he has been "awfully quiet".

These little scenes with Hanako and Kou are quite wholesome if you think about it. Even though Kou had his doubts for Hanako, he shows genuine concern for him. The same goes for Hanako. In their way through No. 2's boundary, Kou was asking Yako about what happens when their rumors change. Yako brushes him off but Hanako interrupts, telling more about Kou's concerns. He knew that Kou really wanted to hear about this.

They only seem to work together if it either involves keeping the school's peace or if it involves Nene. But we do see them play around and tease each other!

And the fact that Kou was part of the memories being shown when Hanako told Nene that he thought he didn't care if someone else dies, is proof that even though they fight a lot, he cares about him.
