And so begins day two!
This morning we learned best practices for client meetings. Here’s the running list.
1) Be pleasant (nobody wants to work with jerks)
Mike Monteiro (Design is A Job) highlights the difference between “pleasant” and “nice”. Pleasant doesn’t mean pushover.
2) Show the client 2 solutions
If you only have 1, they may hate it. If you have more than 3, they’ll request a crazy frankenstein solution, pulling from one and the other.
3) Communication
Be clear about what you’re delivering, what they expect you to do, the scope of the project.
4) Keep meetings to 50 minutes
Give ’em 10 minutes to get to their next meeting.
5) Don’t say no, say “yes… and”
This is borrowed from improv (worlds colliding!)
6) Don’t apologize (if you didn’t screw up)
Then we took our Interview Questions & interviewed the client / stakeholder, the cofounder of Social Security Advisors. Lots of new things became apparent! Update tomorrow :)
