Sorta feels like a lot of spirit shops are inactive, or no longer on discords, or posting things. Do you know why? :(
I do!Itās because thereās no longer a lot of activity on the customerās end. When Loreleiās first started this trend off a few years ago, spirits were adopted every week. I had so many customers. More shops opened up, people became educated on what companionship is and were a lot more careful with choosing when and who to apply for. Things slowed down, and this is a good thing!
It is 100% a good thing that people are taking time to protect and educate themselves. But it did slow things down, especially as people got companions and then (not being hoarders) didnāt look for another for X amount of time. There was also drama that happened and caused lots of shops to close, and then some people would try to reopen shops only to find that without the thousands of followers they had before, it is almost impossible to get off the ground.
There just isnāt as much demand for companions on tumblr anymore, which is why we as a shop are constantly trying to find other places to advertise. Spirits who used to only be up for adoption for 1-2 months now take 6-9 or more months to find homes. We have spirits that have been up for so many months without any apps at all.
Now Loreleiās isnāt going anywhere, thatās a promise, but for other shops this was a huge blow. Itās been like this for a while, but a little bit ago, new shops still expected to get lots of attention from the get go and when they didnāt, they closed. Shops that were there to experience getting the attention and didnāt would close as well.
The craze of companions is done here on tumblr. While there are always going to be people interested, itās just not what it was.
thereās also the problem of many shop owners being in school and school is starting. Or shop owners being too busy to keep up 100%. But I know for me personally, itās hard to want to keep up with everything when I know that people donāt appear to care. We will continue to try to do events, but then having only 1-2 participants is really disappointing and for some, it could be the reason they stop. (Again I say, not us. Please donāt worry about Loreleiās disappearing, I love my job and my shop too much for that lmao)
Thereās probably a lot of reasons, but the one I notice the most prominent is lack of feedback and customer interaction.Ā If you want to help, please support the shops you like! Send asks to the spirits! Reblog their bios! Join the discord and talk to the mods and to the spirits there! Participate in events! Be an active member in the community! We donāt know that you care unless you show it! You donāt even have to apply for spirits, talking to them, reblogging bios, sending asks, etc etc doesnāt mean you are even interested in applying. I talk to spirits in other discord I have 0 intention to apply for. I just know how much is sucks for there to be 100 people in a discord and a spirit can talk and then ā¦. silence.
Even if all you send is aĀ āI hope you have a nice day today, spiritā it really means a lot. We have spirits that have been up for months with next to no contact, so trust me when I say your words go a long way!! Even the smallest thing you could do could be super impactful!!
