Halcyon Lockhart

        “Completely rhetorical,” she wrinkled her nose at him playfully.

“Then let us away!” Halcyon held his elbow out for her.

   Roxanne giggled and nodded, pulling back to be able to look at him. “Yes. Probably too much of a good time but I did win one of those giant bears earlier so that was a call for celebration. What about you?”

“Really? I always thought those games were rigged and such,” Halcyon said, grinning. “’M only just arrivin’. I got a bit held up tryin’ ta chose what ta wear.”

   “I don’t doubt that for a moment. I was gonna say maybe next time but.. sadly this is our last year together.” He pouted slightly.

Halcyon gasped and quickly placed a hand over his heart. “’M hurt here, Luxio. We’ll have other Halloween tagether. Don’t think because ya graduatin’ that ya can get rid o’ me.”

   She scrunched her nose and made a face, “Now that’s simply just asking for too much, Halcyon.”

Halcyon said nothing. Only beamed from ear to ear.

“That sounds like a lot of fun! I would love to decorate my own mask, then spend a whole night dancing around with it.”

“I bet ya’d make a really pretty mask! Maybe we can propose the idea ta Rory if we seem ‘im.”

    Dani was a little hung over from the party and had her cheek resting against her hand. She was reading over a few notes from class when she jumped slightly upon hearing her name. She then noticed who it was and her cheeks instantly turned a little red, “Halcyon- long time no see.”

Halcyon’s grin only widened. “Much too long for my liking.” He was the one who had cut their conversation off--purposefully and for dramatic effect--but he had hoped he would have encountered Danielle prior to now. Oh well. She was here now. His eyes flickered to her lips then back up to her eyes. “How are you?”

   He couldn’t help but laugh and it seemed like it had been so long since he had laughed. “Morticia and Gomez? That would have been fun as long as I was the one who was Gomez. I think I could’ve rocked the mustache.”

“I mean...if ya insist. But jokes on you, ‘cause I’d bloody rock at bein’ Morticia. So.”

       “Next decision,” Henriette took on a serious expression. “Photo booth, or Photo booth?”

“Oh, the photo booth. Without a doubt. ‘S that even a question?” Halcyon winked.

“You absolutely read my mind! Is that the kind of look you’re going for? Are you trying to impress anyone tonight?” A smirk formed on her lips as she playfully nudged him.

“‘M certainly not opposed ta it!” Halcyon beamed. “Oh, yes. ‘M tryin’ ta impress everyone tanight!”

   Her mood was much better than it was days ago. Ximena chuckled and shook her head, “Well, don’t get too used to it now.”

“Too late. ‘M already used to. Guess ya just have ta keep it up.” Halcyon winked and nudged his friend.

Leonard squinted a bit. “I have confidence, just not…” He nodded towards the gaudy mask. “…that confidence. Plus, purple isn’t my thing.”

“Ah. ‘S too bad. Ya’d look excellent in purple.”

“Masks are poetic, aren’t they? Imagine if we had a masquerade!” she said, eyes brightening up at the idea. 

“You could always wear a mask with me and we could have our own personal masquerade.” 

   “It just looks creepy. I don’t know. You are weird but in a non creepy way.” She said with a hint of smile lingering on her lips.

“‘M glad ya don’t think ‘m creepy. ‘S one of the nicest things ya’ve ever said ta me.” Halcyon winked, beaming from cheek to cheek. He was only teasing, of course. 

   “And what if.. what if I said I’d want you to?” Dani cleared her throat and looked down at her book, “You don’t have to answer that.” She said as she sheepishly messed with her bangs.

“Well if ya said that...I guess I’d have ta kiss ya, wouldn’t I?” Halcyon winked and then stood up. He shrugged. “Think about it.” And then he walked away. 

   “That is very true.” She had finished her drink and then got up to go and wrap her arms around her friend, practically crashing against him, “You found me!” It was evident she had been drinking by now.

Without hesitation, Halcyon wrapped his arms around Roxanne’s waist. He held her up as much as he could. “I found ya! Are ya havin’ a good time?”

She beamed, happy to have thought up a good solution for his little problem, especially since a lot of her solutions in other scenarios didn’t always go over so well. “You’ll have not one, but two costumes for the night! What are you dressed up as though? Are you those theater masks?”

“Exactly! ‘S wonderful!” Halcyon bounced on his toes. “’S just the masks. I thought it would be poetic.” He wouldn’t say why, of course, but he figured it was vague and universal enough to pass.
