The YouTube Channels shown above use urbanist rhetoric about the design of cities to push fascistic narratives about the corruption and degeneracy of modernism and a need to reclaim the cities
If your reasoning behind your objection to the urban form seen in American Cities is "it's modernist" or "it's not traditional and goes against ages of traditional"
Please shut the fuck off, get offline and read a fucking book on urban design
The issues with American Urban Design do not come from being in a degenerate modern society but rather from a concrete system of lobbying and willful negligence for the past 70 years, to ignore the way that car companies, oil interests, the military industrial complex, and misguided policies came together to lead to the current design of our society and instead choosing to focus on the fucking Bauhaus as a cause is both irresponsible and stupid
And let's dig into their obsession with the Bauhaus and why in my eyes it's quite blatant antisemitism, even though not all the targets were Jewish.
So the narrative is that the Bauhaus designers are responsible for the flaws with American Urban Design because they came and infiltrated America and took control of its schools to manipulate the minds of young Americans and brainwash them into following a cult of modernism.

Let me give some context, The Bauhaus school an art movement was from Germany, the prominent figures of which fled the Second World War to America.
Antisemitic conspiracies are frequently based in the ideas of jews coming to America, taking control of our institutions and using them to brainwash the American public.
It's the same narrative, just replacing jews with Bauhaus Architects and designers, something that the viewer is supposed to see and make the connection between jews and modernism and the flaws in modern America, it is a clear use of dog whistling to manipulate audiences into falling for conspiracies by using a mix of pre existing beliefs about cities and twisting progressive notions of new urbanism
Okay, I'm done with this tangent, I don't enjoy attacking people but I am just tired of seeing these 2 channels in my recommended on YouTube and needed to get my frustrations out
Another thing I have to point out though is these guys will claim they are leading a movement to reform architecture/urban planning and bring it back to an ideal past but like Urban Planning as a field has only really existed since the 1950s and we don't want to go back to that. And architecture schools still teach the things they claim they lack. In one video it is claimed that architecture schools focus on praising creativity above all else even history or practical skills like drafting, measurement, or making a building you know fucling stand up, which is a ludicrous comment because while what gets praised by architects may not always be beautiful to most people, it fucking exists, it's a building that stands up, if you don't have an architecture degree, I doubt you could design a standing 12 story apartment building, much less a beautiful one. Also like creativity is important, architecture is a design field
The reason I am so passionate about this is because I want better for my city and the people who live there, that's why I am interested in urban design, I want to make the world a better place, and that's why people get involved in social movements like new urbanism, to improve the world, and that's why I take issues with YouTube Channels like these that claim that the issue with urban planning is more aesthetic than anything about how design and planning affect the lived experience of people. I don't care that suburbs look boring, I care that they have destroyed community structures, and have created incredibly car dependent cities.
