CEID100 Tutorial Assignment#8
Thinking Design - A mini pitch deck for my new app idea
Slide #2: Your Story
My idea is a foodie app that allows users to discover good restaurants around them. You can order foods from restaurants online, and the dishes will be well presented to you.
Slide #3: Your Value Proposition
By using this app, users would get more information about the dishes they are interested in, including different angles of the food images, videos, ingredients, customer ratings and comments as well. Therefore, users can have a better understanding of the look and taste of the food they want, which I think would be very helpful for users to make a good decision.
Slide #4: The Pain
A user can choose a special restaurant to look at its foods. But when you head inside, there are just too many choices on the menu and you would need to have some filters in your mind such as the price, taste, portion or location etc..before stepping into a physical restaurant. This app provides a filter that aims to help the user discover their dishes more easily and efficiently. In this app, it's like when you choose one special list in that category and you can filter it according to your own tastes and preferences.
Slide #7: Your Product
My app would provide the best way to describe the foods, we offer lots of well-photographed images presented in as large a format as possible. This app also provides a video to present the beautifulness of different dishes, this can be very helpful for customers to understand how a dish is made. Users are able to see more than one angle of a dish, and small details will be revealed as well. Additionally, A combination of reviews and ratings also assist the users to make their decision more easily and correctly.
The extensive online tracking network
I’m sure you will be surprised by the extensive online tracking network that this reveals!!

CEID100 Tutorial Assignment #3
How to use the proper Google syntax?
Using Google:
1.How would you search for an exact word or phrase?
You search for an exact word or phrase by enclosing the them in quotation marks.
For example: Canada pandemic “lockdown”.
2.How would you search for something on a specific site?
Type site: into the search bar.
Type in your site's address without the "www" part.
Press the spacebar.
Enter a search term or phrase.(This should be whatever you want to search for within the site.)
For example: site:ebay.com iphone.
3.How would you correctly search for a definition?
Put define in front of any word to see its definition.
For example: define: photography.
4.How would you search for a specific product available within a specific price range?
Price search
Price search is an advanced Google search command that lets you tell Google to find a specific product at a specific price. So instead of going to an online store to look for something, you can use Google to search the entirety of the web. You just type in a product, followed by a price (use a dollar sign to specify that you’re looking for a price).
For example: Canada Goose $100-$600.
5.How would you search for a specific filetype?
For finding a specific file type, simply use the ‘type:’ command, followed by the file extension.
For example, you can find .docx files by searching ‘type: .docx’.
6.How would you include or ignore words in your search?
To include the word "meat" in your query, you would enter +meat.
On the other hand, you can exclude words from your search by using the - operator; any word in your query preceded by the - sign is automatically excluded from the search results.
7.How would you find sites/pages similar to an existing one?
We can use the Google search query to get similar kinds of websites.
For example: Related: www.youtube.com This method gives a list of similar sites and this method is the easiest and probably more accurate than other methods.
8.How would you confirm the exact form of a quote even if you were missing some of the words?
Type in whatever you know about the quote, and you can put asterisks for words you don't know.
For example: To be or * to be, that's the question.
9.How would search for pages containing two connected words?
Put + for sites that have both of the words.
For example: Anime+Manga+Figures.
10.How would you search for social media content containing a specific tag?
To search for a tag, search for it with or without the hashtag symbol.
For example: #fireworks display or fireworks display.
Social media best practice
We are living in a digital world. Many brands use social media to expand their business by increasing followers and sales. More and more people are also engaging with social media to build their own brands, whether it's for profits or for fun. So in order to successfully promote their products and services, countless information will be constantly shown on social media. This is because the more people see your content, the more people see your products and services, which means you will have more potential customers. I have a concern that it could be dangerous because people would use "inappropriate" content to attract an audience. For instance, problems like: "policy challenges around copyright; online surveillance; greater security risks related to identity theft and malware; possible invasions of personal privacy; misinformation and information overload"(Diebert 2014; Palfrey & Gasser, 2012; Van Dijck, 2013; Wu, 2010) would occur due to explosion of web-based content. The benefit is also obvious because it allows great diversity of voices and opinions which can produce more creativity. However, I think the negative influence is greater than the positive. As social media become more and more common, it brings higher productivity when people use media to contribute and collaborate with one another. But at the same time, these new technologies also change people the way they choose to spend their leisure time. More people would rather choose to use the Internet to connect with one another or find information and content instead of spending time with print or television media. Personally, I think this would create a wall between everyone. We would become isolated, and we no longer have any social interaction or social skills. We only have human to machine interactions left.
