How about Brom thinking it's a young Morzan and that it's the first glimpse of the afterlife. A place where the Fall never happened, Saphira never died on Vroengard, he never killed his former best friend crush, never arrived too late to save Selena. Perhaps that's another reason why he was so calm about letting go; Murtagh unknowingly allowing Brom to die with a strange new spark of hope.
