Badvertising of the Day: Maurice Clements, who commissioned this billboard outside Boise, ID, to honor the memory of Libertarian Ralph Smeed, says his group is angry at President Obama for not bringing the troops home:

We’re all outraged over that killing in Aurora, CO, but we’re not outraged over the boys killed in Afghanistan.

After criticism mounted, however, Clements softened his stance.

That’s a technique of trying to make a point, and maybe it was poorly done.

Know Thy Enemy of the Day: Lowell Turpin had suspected his live-in girlfriend of an affair, but he became particularly suspicious when he noticed a picture of a man he didn’t recognize on her Facebook page.

He ”angrily demanded to know who the male was,” according to an Anderson County (Tennessee) Sheriff’s Department incident report, then jerked her laptop away from her, smashed it into the wall, and punched her in the face.

The mystery man in question? Mitt Romney.

Turpin has been charged with domestic assault and is being held in Anderson County Jail.

Say What Now of the Day: The requirement that health insurers cover contraception went into effect today, and here’s what Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Kelly had to say about it:

I know in your mind you can think of times when America was attacked. One is December 7th, that’s Pearl Harbor day.  The other is September 11th, and that’s the day of the terrorist attack. I want you to remember August the 1st, 2012, the attack on our religious freedom. That is a day that will live in infamy, along with those other dates.

Chick-Fil-A Fans of the Day: Mike Huckabee’s Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day looks like a success — supporters of the chain’s homophobic president Dan Cathy turned out at franchises across the country today, and pics were promptly posted online so the rest of us could ogle with digust the long lines of bigots.

Let’s call it a win-win.
