Bring back Raptor

Not hard at all lmao, though community input might be necessary because obviously not everyone is going to be aware of everything. Here’s what I got off the top of my head, maybe if people pitch in we can make a more detailed post!

-antisemitism around Christmas and Pi the witch

-problematic redesign choices, this one could be split into several subcategories like Chiyo, Sabine, Holdsworth,,,

-firing freelance workers, leading to the discontinuation of comics, books and music.

-the mistfall series (maybe not the worst idea in theory, but I can’t imagine it brought in more business and money than it cost)

-the fucking candle

-relating to the candle, clearly wanting to sell their players things but releasing absolutely 0 merch

-horse girl is a slur

-back when it happened, collabing with jojo siwa was a big controversy because people didn’t think she fit the game

-AI art

-They’ve been reported to Konsumentvert for breaking laws regarding advertisements toward kids.

Jojo Siwa rebrands and someone at SSE thinks wow, we could make fun of this

Raptor is hyped as coming back for the equestrian festival with a whole new name, with his songs playing in the backgrounds of trailers.

Raptor appears and reveals that his new name is rizz razz the riff rapscalion or something to that effect

That's all. He doesn't say anything else. There is no quest. There is no music. He rhymes a little bit but then he just stands there.

Somehow we are meant to glean that this is a joke, the entire setup was a joke, the comeback is a joke, the idea of him playing songs was so far from SSE's minds that, when people in the comments said "was that all? i wanted him to put on a concert" the social media team responded with "great idea, we'll see if he's up for it in the future!"

They do not, and ladies and gentlepeople this is the important part, announce that it is a joke. They make two responses to instagram comments where they imply that they just wanted to be silly, but the idea of Raptor realizing the namechange is weird, wrong or not something to pursue is not brought up, so despite it being a joke, he is canonically Rizzy now

Raptor is still raptor(?) Raptor is not making music, he's not even performing music. ALL of this for SSE to go haha what if we changed his name.

credit to @phoebified for alerting me to this and making me go do my research!! i mostly related sámi gákti to having square shapes around the neck bc i mostly saw sámi men around the karesuando/kiruna area (where my family is mostly from) and didn't really see these open V shapes much. they may also have been covered with shawls when i wouldve seen them.

besides what ive put in the pic, its also worth noting that sámi culture includes a traditional singing style called joik (has different names in different sámi languages) which is very well known in scandinavia. so the fact that she deals with music may or may not also relate to the image of "mysterious" indigenous music.

"katja is cold and mysterious" (sso website) and ofc an evil villain - not appropriate traits to associate with an oppressed indigenous people in the global far north (icy and cold and scary).

this part is not related to sámi design influence, but it's also interesting that katja is albinism coded (ableist stereotype in villains) which also wasnt something i really thought about until it was pointed out ("fictional girl with white/grey hair" was my initial reading). and i also didnt really pay attention to the fact until just now, that her horse mortifa is blind, which also ties back into both albinism and ableism. blindness, especially white or clouded eyes as mortifa has, as a disability in itself shouldnt be treated as "ooh spooky" or evil. we do have a positive representation blind character in sso in rania, as well as a few positive or neutral characters with glasses, and at the end of the day we do want all kinds of representation - i want to see my own disabilities and traits in both good, bad, and neutral characters - but i do think its notable that the horse with blindness is tied to the albinism coded character and that they're villains.
