WHAT A shoe with attached machine. The shoe leaves a plastic print on the floor with your own plastic trash. This can literally show you the ecological footprint you leave on this earth.

HOW The machine around your body melts the plastic waste you would otherwise throw away. This material travels down, through the tube, to the double sole in the shoe, where it has space to flow across the whole size of the shoe. Through holes in the sole, the plastic will seep out and leave a mark in the shape of a footprint.

As said before, my challenge was to make a shoe out of all recycled materials. This led to some searching. I found leftover foam in the trash and figured it would make a decent sole. I decided to just do a mock-up, instead of a whole new working prototype, since I didn't have much time left and it would also be very hard to source second-hand materials to make into a working prototype.

The leather came from an old, cut-up dress and formed the base of the shoe-shape. Other materials came from fabric samples, found tape, weak thread and shit glue that no one wanted.

The finished second prototype. For now, it works only with paint and it doesn't quite look like what it's supposed to look like, but I wanted to test out if the mechanism of the sole would actually work before I continued on this project.

1: I will focus on making a shoe that someone can wear, made of materials I DIDN'T BUY, in the spirit of recycling. This means I will use only materials I find around, say, school, or materials I still had lying around.

2: I will do research on materials I would need to make the machine and keep the person wearing it safe.

The first prototype I started on, for my footprint generator. I decided to leave it at this stage because it became clear to me that this is a shoe no one can walk in (the sole is made of wood, the wire construction and it is tiny (like actually tiny)). I will focus on making a shoe that someone can wear, made of materials I DIDN'T BUY, in the spirit of recycling. This means I will use only materials I find around, say, school, or materials I still had lying around.

My project will be a machine that shows you your environmental footprint. You feed it your plastic waste (that you would otherwise throw away) and it melts the material and sends it to your special shoe. The sole of the shoe leaves a footprint on the ground with the plastic you wasted. Thus, it literally shows you the footprint you are leaving on the planet.
