As a follow up to my last blog post I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Gary Gumanow. I asked him some questions about using flash and handling confrontation on the streets while shooting.

I am still flattered that Johan asked to interview me about confrontation with street photography. It’s a topic I think we all have to deal with, whether we are taking a photo of flowers, sunsets, cats, or people we don’t know.

Heck, I’ve gotten confronted for taking a photo of a bingo hall... seriously!

So, needless to say, I think it’s a great topic for further discussion. Everyone deals with it differently.

I hope you get a chance to read the interview and let me know your thoughts on the topic. How do you handle confrontation?

I seriously never thought I would be sharing my thoughts and photos with so many people in my lifetime. Back in 2006 when I joined flickr, I was really nervous about sharing my photos, thinking nobody will like them, or people won’t understand, and this is a big mistake.

Thank you for all the encouragement and inspiration over the years. It’s pushed me in new directions with my photography. I only hope that I give back more than I’ve received already.

Shared a print with www.facebook.com/brunocandeias?fref=photo He finally received it through customs today in Lisbon. I'm not sure why Bruno had to go down to customs to receive a photograph. Here's the print still in its protective sleeve that I mailed it in. I'm glad he likes it. I swapped a Rolleiflex Bay 3 Yellow filter for this print, one for one. I didn't expect him to also include one of his own prints with the filter. This print is 16x16" on fiber paper, silver gelatin print.

I haven't been in my darkroom for over two months now. I have been consumed with my day job with tight deadlines. About two months ago we installed a shower in our garage apartment and in the process needed to turn off the AC unit. When we turned the AC back on, we found a leak in the coil and needed to replace the whole damn unit. My darkroom is on the ground floor of the garage and has an AC vent. So, without AC I was down and out of my darkroom. I printed this photo several months ago and hadn't shared it online because I didn't really find it that interesting. I mean, it's not exactly symmetrical and I'm not sure if it says anything. I have about 40 contact sheets printed and edited and am trying to build up the motivation to go back in and start printing again. For now, with the hot weather, the pool is always calling me instead.
