The Great Race por Brian D Plant Por Flickr: The most improbable thing to happen in the theater of American steam railroading for the 21st Century has got to be the America 250th Anniversary tour being put on by Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern, with help from Reading & Northern/Delaware-Lackawanna/Steamtown NPS. Two Saturdays ago, this was the culmination of an hours-long wait at Whitehouse Curve on the R&N former Lehigh Valley Mountain Cut-Off. The side-by-side running of UP 4014 and former RDG 2102 was an event I knew I needed to see. While the timing didn’t work perfectly in our favor, for a brief moment the locomotives lined up. It was certainly a special moment, preceded by a nice afternoon amongst friends and admittedly too many strangers for my liking.

DH 112 por Citizen of the Galaxy Por Flickr: I didn't take this picture - I wish I did, but it's at least five years before my time! I acquired this transparency in a slide box marked "GOOD FOR SOMETHING" that was being disposed of by the CNY Chapter NRHS in their cataloging of Dick Horstmann's slide collection. Dick took this picture sometime in 1974. The location is obviously Bevier Street Yard in Binghamton and celebrity PA1 No. 18 (not yet a PA4) is in town for some kind of special move. Also drawing attention of photographers is the Lehigh Valley train in the background, probably the Sayre Turn, featuring two other celebrity units: GP9 No. 301, one of only two LV units to wear its distinctive paint scheme, and chop nosed GP9 No. 304. The 18 has of course returned to the area, now in Scranton PA as NKP 190. I have several more quality RAH castoffs that I will be posting here in the near future!

Great Central Railway Leicestershire 28th February 2026 por loose_grip_99 Por Flickr: Visiting British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92134 (as 92073) standing in platform 2 at Loughborough prior to working a train the 13.00 Afternoon tea train to Leicester. I had just coupled up & set the lamps and still had over 20 minutes before departure to bring the fire round. It was good to have a 9F back on the roster. Unfortunately 92134 returned to the NYMR in March & our 9F, 92214 won't be back in service for some time yet.

LNER at night por Nigel Por Flickr: A colour and deep black mono of Flying Scotsman and 60009 Union of South Africa at night at Baron Street on the East Lancashire Railway on a special photographic evening. The chances of this being recreated are very slim as 60009 is now out of steam and in a museum on it's owners farm in a private museum

611 In the Blue Ridge Mountains por Don Kalkman Por Flickr: Norfolk and Western class J 611 was at MP 264 on Buckingham Branch's former Chesapeake and Ohio main line with an excursion out of Staunton. It was here that the train halted and returned to Staunton.

Gettysburg Steam por Don Kalkman Por Flickr: Gettysburg 2-8-0 76 was running an excursion at Bigerville in 1990. It was built by Baldwin in 1920 for the Jonesboro, Lake City & Eastern Railroad as their 40. In 2005 the 76 would be sold to the Steam Railroading Institute of Owosso, Michigan where it would sit awaiting restoration until 2017. Today the engine is at the Oakland B&O Museum where it received a cosmetic restoration and is displayed as B&O 476, most likely never to run again.
