William T. Spears thought himself a man prepared for everything; he took great pride in this. He even welcomed the unknown realm of death as calm and as prepared a man could, no falter, no fear, no expectations. And he might have thought of several outcomes as he let his body slid from that bridge, none as plausible as the absolute end and none as attractive as a joined afterlife with his lover, but the new life he was presented with was not one of them.
