âI know if I'm hauntin' you, you must be hauntin' meâ â Haunted by BeyoncĂŠ
Summary
Caught between the bureaucratic routine of the University of Valinor and the burden of a crumbling marriage, Ar-PharazĂ´n believes he has his life under control. But everything falls apart when Sauron appears in his office, exuding a mesmerizing presence.
What begins as a simple conversation quickly turns into a dangerous game, where the line between revulsion and uncontrollable desire becomes perilously thin. As Sauron weaves his web of provocation, Ar-PharazĂ´n faces a troubling question: is he trying to flee temptation, or is he, deep down, hoping to be captured?

Notes: Hello guys! I know that it's been a long time since I've posted something. But, for the first time, I'm publishing a shor story about Sauron and Ar-PharazĂ´n, that belongs to a modern au/college or university au that I'm building and probably going to post more about it. I gently remind that English is not my first language, and I apologize if you find any grammatical or spelling errors. Thank you for choosing my story to read. I hope you enjoy it!
The taste of the coffee seemed bitterer than usual.
Maybe it was because he had fought with his wife again, or perhaps it was the daily stress of having to deal with a mountain of paperwork since he took over the position of pro-vice-chancellor of graduate programs at the University of Valinor. Or it could just be the bad mood common to the 40s. Honestly, he didn't care about the reason. He just felt exhausted for a Monday morning, wondering if he had really made the best decision by reducing his classroom hours to deal with bureaucracy and political games.
His wife might be right after all. He was no longer the same professor who had the tranquility to control and teach over 140 students a day and still have the energy to go out at night. Not that he really liked socializing. It was something he had learned to do because it was part of his profession and, of course, because his wife liked it. If he were honest, there were days when all he wanted was to be completely alone, just drinking bitter coffee and ignoring everyone around him.
That was exactly what he intended for that morning. He wasn't in the mood to deal with all the paperwork, and he didn't intend to do so for a good while. He just wanted to take advantage of the fact that he had no students to see, classes to teach, or, in the worst case, professors wanting to talk. The advantage of his office being practically invisible at first sight earned him a few good minutes in silence, with only the distant sound of birds and the rustling of leaves rubbing against the window.
Although his colleagues believed he was extremely ambitious, he only saw himself as someone who knew exactly what he wanted and what he needed to do to get it. And his office was a clear example of that. He had spent three long years attending university parties to get it, and when he did, well, his position changing was a welcome consequence. Although he didn't much like the paperwork or being in the middle of political games, being responsible for the grad programs had its advantages. Loneliness, for example.
All he wanted was to rest his head for at least five minutes.
But of course, he couldn't afford that luxury that day.
He didn't need to think much to know who it was. The woody perfume with a spicy note and a slight aroma of wine was the trademark of only one person in the entire university. Subconsciously, Ar-PharazĂ´n gripped the coffee cup tighter and adjusted himself in his chair while running his hands through his black hair. It was something that always escaped his control, as if the other had some kind of power over his body and his actions, even when he knew that couldn't be real. It was just in his head, an idea that should never leave his thoughts.
"Am I bothering you?" That voice, in a tone both grave and soft at the same time, was like sin coated in honey. "I wanted to have coffee with someone today. If it's all right with you, of course."
He should say yes, he was bothering him. He should say his office wasn't meant for idle chatter or that he didn't want company that morning. In reality, he had so many reasons not to wish to be in the presence of the other man that he avoided doing so. Looking at that professor with hair as red as flames and eyes as golden as liquid gold was like signing his death warrant. At the same time that he hated him, he couldn't stay away, even if he tried.
But he was weak, after all.
Especially when the other wore those dress shirts with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, the top two buttons open revealing part of his chest and those tight pants that accentuated his curves. Or that gold chain around his neck with a ring hanging on it, a family heirloom if he wasn't much mistaken. Or even the snake tattoo that went down the man's right arm and hid under that cotton fabric.
Not that he was watching, of course.
"Playing the shy card with me doesn't work, Sauron." His voice came out raspy, low, but he smiled anyway. Not a fake smile like he was used to offering others. "Come in and close the door."
"You offend me like that, dear." The redhead gave one of those smirks that always made the students giggle silly and entered the room with the naturalness of someone who knew exactly what to do. "Can't a man simply wish to accompany a colleague during coffee?"
The way Sauron moved through the room was that of someone who knew the environment better than anyone. Of course, considering he had known it since he was just a young professor and student, it wouldn't be very difficult to imagine how many times he had frequented that office over all those years. He was younger, more enthusiastic, still single. He didn't remember ever hearing the other complain about a relationship before, much less any problem per se. The redhead was like an unknown variable. Few knew what he thought, they only had the notion that he was extremely intelligent.
And attractive, by the way.
"You have other colleagues besides me. What makes me so interesting that you choose to have coffee with me instead of them is a mystery." Ar-PharazĂ´n commented, taking a long sip of his bitter drink. "Could Professor Leblanc have a preference among his colleagues?"
That made the other man laugh in a way that it was possible to observe every vein in his throat. No, he wasn't looking. It was just hard to look away when the raspy and sincere laugh made him tilt his head back and show the pale, unmarked skin. Ar-PharazĂ´n had to turn his face to the window and take another sip of coffee to not think too much about that.
God, it was hard to concentrate with that perfume messing with his senses.
"Besides this quiet office," Sauron began calmly and slowly, leaning in and blinking his gold-like eyes with a smile. "I like your company."
Oh.
That smile. That damned smile was like a sin coated in a blessing. He hated the temptation that the slightly pink lips offered him. He hated it because he didn't understand the reason for feeling so moved by that simple gesture. He was married, for God's sake. Worse yet, he was straight. There was no sense in feeling tempted to discover what that damned mouth might taste like, nor in listening to that voice, always so confident and raspy, pleading for him.
If magic existed, Sauron was probably one of its practitioners.
It was the only explanation he could find to justify the irregular beating of his heart. Or maybe he was getting sick from drinking so much. Maybe he should exercise more instead of attending parties that his wife dragged him to. Damned man. Clearing his throat slightly and taking a sip of his coffee, Ar-PharazĂ´n leaned back and smiled sarcastically.
"Or maybe you just want to see me more stressed. As if I didn't get stressed enough with the students and other professors." He answered after a while while staring into those golden eyes that seemed to shine like sin.
"I don't see any advantages in that." The other laughed lightly and smiled while leaning in conspiratorially. "I like it when your attention is all on me. A selfish point, but what being isn't selfish in this world, isn't it?"
"Oh, but selfishness can lead men to do things they usually wouldn't do on other occasions." PharazĂ´n didn't know exactly what led him to say that. He didn't even have an idea why he was leaning slightly in the direction of the other man.
Sauron, for his part, like the damned demon he was, leaned forward too. Close. So close that the older man could smell his intoxicating perfume with much more intensity. So strong that the simple presence of that man seemed to incite him to lean in more, like a magnetic force pulling him closer and closer, forgetting himself totally for a moment. Their breaths were starting to mingle and their lips were inches apart.
And thenâŚ
The redhead let out a raspy laugh.
Ar-PharazĂ´n couldn't believe what his dark eyes were seeing. The wretch had simply started laughing and pulling away, as if all that were nothing more than a joke. A game. A trap where he was the prey and the redhead was the predator. His eyes, however, traitors, couldn't stop noticing how the reddish lips opened into a charming, sinful, forbidden smile. Or in the way the necklace with a ring hanging from it shone softly against the fair skin.
Damned be the being who had put that man on Earth to walk among men.
"You're right, my dear friend. Selfishness is a common evil of the human race. A disease so subtle that it has already impregnated kings and destroyed entire empires." The other said calmly, his voice a soft tone while he picked up the coffee and took a sip from the pro-vice-chancellor's cup. "But do you know what is more powerful than selfishness?"
Sauron paused, letting his words settle as he leaned in. Ar-PharazĂ´n could feel the other's breath in his ear, his breath warm from the strong drink causing shivers while his voice, naturally raspy, whispered:
"Passion. The vile, human thing that consumes the mind, the heart, and the body of its owner. Can you imagine that? Can you feel that, dear?"
"SauronâŚ" Ar-PharazĂ´n let out a low grunt while sighing and shaking his head, trying to dissipate the thoughts that were corrupting his mind and soul. He constantly needed to remind himself that he was straight and married.
"Oh, you can't take an innocent little joke." The redhead let out an amused laugh and then sighed. "I didn't even do anything much. If you reacted like that now, I imagine how you would react to what I really wanted to do."
With an amused laugh, the redhead then stood up and, with calm steps, headed to the office door. His hips swayed slightly, and PharazĂ´n forced himself to look away from that body while clenching his fists. Sauron then stopped at the entrance, turned his head slightly and smiled, his golden eyes shining subtly while he posed in an intriguing way for a brief moment.
"I'll see you later, dear. Who knows, you might be more⌠open when I come back." He winked and finally closed the door.
A sigh escaped the pro-vice-chancellor's lips when he found himself alone again. He hadn't even realized he was holding the air in his lungs. The damned redhead had the capacity to scramble his thoughts and play with his body in a way that, in all his 44 years, no one else had managed. And ah, damned be that man for leaving him wondering what he meant by his true desires.
"Damn it." He grunted, frowning as his hands ran through his hair. He breathed once, twice, three times. Enough to manage to recover his senses and think more calmly.
Or so he thought.
He was only aware of his actions when the crack of porcelain colliding against plaster and then colliding with the polished wooden floor echoed through the silent office. He had broken his cup. Again. For the same reason.
Oh, that redhead would be the end of him. And perhaps, he wanted it to be.
[...]
Humming calmly in the staff room, the redhead took a sip of coffee he had found still in the coffee maker provided for the staff. His classes for the day had ended, and he was preparing for a long afternoon of grading exams. At least he had had fun earlier. Such was his happiness that two of his colleagues present at that moment couldn't help but notice Sauron's constant provocations.
"Don't you think you're torturing PharazĂ´n too much?" Melkor, the man with black hair and stubble, asked, his voice low while he blew the smoke from his coffee, his eyes fixed on the exams in his hands.
"Oh, Melk." Sauron gave a little laugh while sitting in one of the chairs and crossing his leg. "Quite the opposite. It only gets more funnier as the days pass."
The smile that marked his lips shouldn't have seemed cruel or, even, fun. But he couldn't help himself. Even though he was among friends. Even though they knew part of what he had been doing every day since Ar-PharazĂ´n Deveraux crossed his path on some random day.
"Provoking a married man has become your fun now? I didn't know you had stooped so low to this level, Sauron." The blond, with long, wavy hair, commented from the other side while his blue eyes stared at him mockingly. "Besides, it's not like PharazĂ´n is going to fall that easily."
"Oh, Thranduil," The other laughed amusedly, drawing the attention of the two men. "You wound me, dear. It seems you don't know me or the woman who raised the three of us as our mother long enough to give me some manners." The simple mention of the woman made both of the older ones tense up and look at him seriously. "His marriage is already ending anyway. I don't need to do much. Besides⌠I don't want him to leverage my career. I want to see him burning for me until he can't stand it. I want him to feel like he needs me to the point of running after me like a good little dog. It's just a matter of time."
Both men looked at each other for a moment and sighed, as if they knew the crisis that awaited them in the future. Because when Sauron had an idea in his head, not even the devil could stop him.

I knew he was the one after I read about his longing for the sea and for forests. He is for the trees, and Iâm for the trees, so I guess that makes us utterly and intrinsically compatible, we may frolic about in fields and waters together and be magical and carefree ( jk. Unless?)
Not my usual post, but I decided to just post whatever whenever I like it. Iâm not sure if this is a w.i.p or if Iâll leave it as a sketch

I think parents don't understand how punishing a child isn't for when they make you upset, it's for when they do something wrong. Like, you don't just punish them for stress relief, it's so they can learn right from wrong.
So if your kid learns, for example, that helping mom make dinner = getting in the way, but not helping = being lazy, but asking if mom needs help = being annoying and asking stupid questions, then you have basically trained a person to see the only option that doesn't lead to scolding as 'hide and don't be thought of until dinner is done'. So now what relationship is your kid going to have with cooking or cleaning or chores in general? How is that going to affect them as an adult?
If there is no right answer regarding the things that bother a parent, then your kid is going to associate those things with being punished no matter what they do. If talking during a car ride is bad and annoying, but being quiet and staring out the window is bad and disrespectful, then what are they going to do every time they're in the car with you but count every word they say? If texting is suspicious, but why don't they have friends, but going out with people is irresponsible, but why don't they ever leave their room, but their friends are all bad influences, but why did they stop hanging out with them, they were nice kids, then what are you even doing?
If playing video games is lazy, going outside is unsafe, playing is ignoring chores and doing chores is being in the way, then YOU'VE CREATED A CHILD WHO'S LEARNED THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID BEING SCOLDED IS TO DISAPPEAR WHENEVER YOU'RE IN A BAD MOOD! You've created a person who is hardwired to feel guilty no matter what they choose to do. You turned them into a confrontation ninja, who can vanish as soon as a hard conversation enters the picture. You've trained a person to disregard why rules exist and instead focus on who they can placate and suck up to in order to make the rules change. Because to them, rules and punishments are just who gets on the bosses nerves at the wrong time.
What if telling the Council of Elrond that Gollum escaped wasnât the only reason Legolas went to Rivendell? What if he also went to give Elrond everything Greenwood knew about the Necromancer and its evil creatures?
Because to me it feels really weird that Legolas, a Prince, would just volunteer to go on a quest to destroy the very ring that was cursing his home and about to completely destroy it if he didnât have an ulterior motive. Especially because (I headcanon) heâs a captain and wouldâve spent centuries defending the forest, only for him to walk away the moment a quest, which was more likely to fail than succeed, appeared which would take him straight to the heart of all evil.
So what if he also went to Rivendell knowing that Greenwood wouldnât be able to stand against the shadow for much longer. And that once they fell, everything theyâd been fighting against would spill out into the rest of Middle Earth. So Thranduil decided to entrust Elrond with everything they knew so that if the worst were to happen, Middle Earth wouldnât be completely fucked.
So Legolas wouldâve known this and essentially went to Rivendell knowing that his home wouldnât be there for much longer, hence why he immediately volunteered to go on the quest; to ultimately protect his home.
tumblr is only for people who r weird and a bit lonely and had a strange interest when they were 12 that led them here. if none of those apply to you like genuinely what is there for you here
Imagine if you were floating alone in space for nearly 50 years after all your friends went to sleep and never woke up, and just when all hope seems to be lost another ship appears this weird-ass alien pops out with all this tech, somehow starts TALKING to you with said tech, and promises to help you - DOES help you, and even sacrifices his chance to go home to save you and your people - and then you find out that his name means âmercyâ in his home language ???
Shit, dude, Iâd have assumed God himself was sending me a message.

âJ.R.R. Tolkien has become a sort of mountain, appearing in all subsequent fantasy in the way that Mt Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes itâs big and up close. Sometimes itâs a shape on the horizon. Sometimes itâs not there at all, which means that the artist either has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt Fuji.â
how do you imagine the first time mereneth saw thranduils scars? did she know beforehand they were there or was it a surprise? and what about legolas same question?
Tbh I am not sure if youâre referring to the first time she EVER saw any of his scars, or if youâre asking about seeing them in Valinor specifically. So Iâll do my best to answer both.Â
By the time that Thranduil and Mereneth met, heâd already survived the attacks on Doraith twice, the War of Wrath, plus lord knows how many smaller battles over his lifetime. Mereneth knew about all of that; Thranduil had told her about it. Maybe not in great detail ⌠but he'd told her. The thing is, most of the Silvans didn't really experience or participate in âOrganized Warâ the way the other elves did with eachother & with the forces of darkness. So it was difficult for her to really comprehend the scope of what he had already stubbornly survived through. Mereneth KNEW about the scars, but they were still a surprise.Â
The first time she saw most of Thranduils scars wasâŚ. Very emotional. For both of them.Â
For Mereneth her poor brain basically short circuited. To know and love Thranduil in one of the most lighthearted periods of his life, and then to see the evidence of what it had taken for him to get there was extremely difficult to fit together into one cohesive image. Especially because she worked with the Healers as a scribe and had a better idea than the average population about what kind of wounds would leave each type of scar.Â
He didn't need to tell her that he had been stabbed so deeply in the side, the hilt had almost been flush with his skin. He didn't need to explain the horrible infection he had gotten on his leg that could only be treated by cutting away the affected tissue. Or the slash wounds to his stomach that made it impossible to sit up on his own for weeks.Â
He didn't need to tell her because she could read it in the scars. It was (understandably) A LOT to take in all at once.Â
For Thranduil, Mereneth seeing his scars felt extremely vulnerable in a way it usually didn't. Usually, scars were scars. Things happened; warriors got hurt. The good or the lucky ones lived to get hurt another day & kept the evidence to remind them not to be stupid that way again. They were a sign that he had protected those he loved and stood up for things he believed in.Â
But when Mereneth looked upon them, he was not a warrior with scars. He was just Thranduil, with every worst day of his life written out on his skin for her to examine. He worried that it would be evidence of too much cruelty for Mereneth to still love him, because how could anybody live through such cruel things without being equally horrific? He worried that she would finally realize how broken he still was. That she would finally understand and come to agree that he was not worth her time.Â
It took a LOT of convincing on Merenethâs behalf for Thranduil to beleive that if anyting, it only made her love him more.Â
The first time that she saw all of Legolasâ scars was (initially and externally) less emotional than when she saw Thranduil's. She had a MUCH better idea of what to expect and had done her best to brace herself to not react in any way that might make Legoals feel subconscious or judged or prevent him from sharing things with her in the future.
However, the longer she knew about them, the more she learned about some of the stuff that Legolas had lived through, the more it âhauntedâ her in a way. She started having nightmares where she was forced to witness horrible things being done to Legolas but was unable to help or otherwise intervene in any way. Mereneth already felt guilty for dying and âabandoningâ her family, but that guilt would sometimes become almost crushing. The elfling she had been forced to leave behind had been so tiny and perfect and innocent⌠The elf before her now was a War Hero in a way even legends struggled to convey.Â
The scars were reminders of the thousands of things in his life she had missed. The thousands of times he could have used the comfort of his mother, and did not have it. The thousands of things she would never know about him. It was so âŚ. Lonely.
While Thranduil, Ferdan, and Galion did their best to understand and help her through all her feelings, it was hard for them to really âgetâ waht she was feeling since they were there the entire time. They got to witness Legolas slowly transfomr into the Elf that appeared on the shores of Valinor. I headcanon that Thranduils mother died when the dwarves attacked Thingol over the jewels, and so she also missed âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ. A Lot when it came to Thranduilâs life. The two of them I think would bond very deeply over this, and be important sources of support and comfort for eachother.
