The usual effect she seemed to cast over him washed over him, and he relished in the smile that it brought when she spoke. âShame on you Greengrass, are you using your name to get you places,â he teased, and even as he was speaking the words, the irony wasnât lost on him. Their names didnât mean as much as they used to, but if he were truly honest, he must preferred it that way. âYou know Iâm good at brewing a Polyjuice, we can easily disguise ourselves and make a fortune,â he joked and made a big show of taking a big bite out of his ice-cream, crunching into the cone.
âTheyâd have a conniption,â he spoke through almost a full mouth of ice-cream. âThe Wyvern and the Ministry, I mean, they may have to rebrand the Alley and before you know it, itâll be gentrified and, to lack a better term, boring,â he smiled. Keeping beneath the rader of the Ministry had been his fatherâs game, and by default, Theo also had to play. He recalled the sit down heâd had, barely days after theyâd returned home after the trial, where their plans were then laid, and Theo realised just how much he didnât want to be included in the plans. Heâd made the mistake of voicing his opinions and that had earned him an unspeakable talking to.Â
âYouâre the one with the job, Astoria,â he smiled softly, looking down at the hand that reached for his. He didnât liked contact from many people, and yet, yearned for it, and her soft hand was a welcome one in his. He gave it a gentle squeeze, and feeling as if it were beyond what he was allowed, slowly pulled his hand back, making a show of reaching for napkins. âBut speaking of, how is it going?â He arched a brow. âTell me, regale me with the tales of a glamourous working woman, even if you are the blackest cauldron between the two of us.â
Astoria wouldnât dare to joke about their current situation as children of Death Eaters with anyone else, sure they were others who had it worse than her, but they were a few, after all not everyoneâs parents were locked up in Azkaban because they had declared their full support to the Dark Lord while on trial, while the other parent had died because of the war. Some still had both parents, safe and sound, under Ministry surveillance, but still by their side. Even so, she wouldnât joke with any other people, because other people were not Theo. Aside from her sister, Theo was the only other person Astoria felt she didnât have to pretend, or put on a brave face, or keep her everything is/will be fine attitude. Being around Theo had always felt safe, like nothing could harm her.
âYou know thatâs not a bad ideaâ Astoria said with a mischievous smile, ânot the getting rich scamming people part, the polyjuice potion, can you imagine all we could do if we didnât look like us?â of course what she meant was if they didnât look like a Greengrass and a Nott. How many times had she heard the phrase a dirigible plum doesnât just float away from the bush, mostly thrown at her as an insult, full of hate for things she had no part of, or even idea that were happening. She was a child, they all were. âIâm obviously kidding, we would be arrested as soon as they suspected we were brewing the potion.â
She let out a long tired sigh, âand Iâm starting to regret getting oneâ Astoria had imagined her internship quite differently, âI- I mean itâs not like I was expecting it to be easy... but... I donât know, I wonder if they are ever going to let me join a department or if Iâm going to be an intern foreverâ she shrugged before going back to her ice cream. âI do get to hear some juicy stuff thoâ she wiggled her eyebrows, âI was in a meeting where they were discussing whether or not to make contact with the muggle prime minister, apparently things are bad in the muggle government, everyoneâs worried about how itâll affect usâ Astoria bit her lip, âyeah I made that sound more exciting that it was... itâs actually quite worrisome...â the world sucked, magical and muggle alike.
