It's 12 am here and I'm just thinking about how I fell in love with Juvia's character almost instantly.
I remember being introduced to her character years and years ago. But back then I felt I never connected with her as much as I do now. Now I understand why she's one of my favorite fictional characters.
Life experiences truly help you connect to some characters differently. You understand them on a more empathetic level. Something you couldn't do before.
Depression is so crippling. It sucks away the life in you. You're not the same person you were before. Or rather, you don't have the strength to be the person you want to be. But watching Gray pull Juvia out of that for an instant, not an instant but permanently, during the phantom battle, is just so beautiful to watch. And I'll forever be thankful to Gray for giving us the Juvia we love today.
This girl's been through absolute hell. She was bullied all her life. Hurt. Betrayed. Not loved for who she was. You'd think all of this would break her. But she never ever ended up 'Evil'. No she decided to lock herself into a shell. But not once did she ever think of inflicting the pain she'd felt all her life onto anyone else. And that is something I will always love her for. That is strength. That, is Juvia.
Post the phantom battle, I never felt she 'stalked' Gray. She never did anything to hurt him or endanger him in anyway. In my eyes, she kept her distance and just wanted to stay close to a guy who literally brought light back into the darkness she's been living in.
She cares so fucking deeply for her friends. After the phantom battle, she asked Gajeel to think about joining Fairy Tail. Think about it. If it wasn't for Juvia, maybe Gajeel wouldn't have considered joining the guild ( Sure Gramps eventually was the one to convince Gajeel but Juvia did have a role to play too ). And if that didn't happen, we wouldn't have our amazing dragon slayer trio or we wouldn't even have Gajeel and Levy. If it wasn't for Juvia, Gajeel wouldn't have even met the love of his life. The one who brought light into his darkness.
Despite not even being a part of the guild, she did everything she could to help the team during the tower of heaven arc. Do you understand the amount of strength one needs to join an unfamiliar group, one that you fought a while back, and help them defeat another enemy they're facing? The strength to show them that you aren't evil. That you aren't bad but someone who just wants to be loved and have friends? You just want to redeem yourself? That right there is why Juvia is one of my favorite anime characters. Not just in this manga/anime but overall.
The lengths she'd go to, to show the guild that she truly wanted to be a part of Fairy Tail. She sacrificed herself so she wouldn't have to fight Cana. I remember being so shocked. Thinking, ' Girl.....you're already a part of Fairy Tail. After the Tower of Heaven there was no way you weren't :') '.
She's flat out one of the funniest characters in the show. She always makes me laugh. I grew to like her almost instantly only because she made me smile. Her past experiences allowed her to empathize with Meredy. An enemy. She knew all too well about the situation she was in. Yet, she chose to empathize and understand her enemy. She helped Meredy become the person she is today. If it wasn't for Juvia, if Meredy was facing someone else, the whole fuckin course of Fairy Tail could've changed. Meredy and Ultear wouldn't have made up. Meredy wouldn't have had a new perspective on life.
To see this broken and unhappy girl, morph into one of brightest and loveliest personalities in Fairy Tail just made me think about how the people in her past life truly missed out. This was her character all along... Beautiful, Strong, Passionate, Caring, Empathetic, Fun and now.......Carefree as well. A positive driving force for Gray.
This is why I fell in love with Juvia instantly. It didn't take me long to do so. It didn't have to reach too far into the manga/anime for me to love this character. She's honestly been a driving force in my life. If anything I want to be like her. The strength she possesses, is something I will always appreciate. Her presence calms me. It comforts me. And it's very rare a fictional character can do that for me.
I just can't tell you how much I love her. 🤍💙
