Shang Qinghua sat at the desk in his quiet study, his back stiff from spending what felt like hours hunched over his paperwork. He twirled a bamboo ink brush in his hand, graceless and bored, as he stared down at the scroll spread out in front of him. No matter how many times he tried to wrap his head around this, it still didn’t make sense to him and probably never would.

He was supposed to be working on the seating chart for the, er… celebratory banquet where Mobei-Jun planned to announce the name of his chosen consort. Honestly, could anybody really blame Shang Qinghua for procrastinating so much? Mobei-jun was announcing his consort. In front of the entire Northern Kingdom. In front of Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu, too.

Aiyah, how was Shang Qinghua going to live down this humiliation? Mobei-jun would make his declaration, and Shang Qinghua just knew that Cucumber-bro would peer at him over the top of his fan as if to say, well? Why didn’t he say your name, “Great Master” Airplane?

And the truth was? Shang Qinghua didn’t fucking know.
