Everyday Cyprus 

 A topographical proposal for an everyday Cypriot aesthetic by Stelios Kallinikou that disregards the politics that have until now divided and distorted the island’s unified landscape.* The methodology: an almost primitive unobstructed walkabout, from South to North, where mountains, buildings, trees, statues and many other entities narrate what could be understood as a ‘local poetics’. A free-play of urban, suburban and natural scenes that evoke a reconsideration of identity, memory and history.

*Since 1974 Cyprus has been divided between the Turkish-Cypriot North and the Greek-Cypriot South. The 'Green Line’ buffer zone was established by the UNFICYP between the two territories. After a nearly 30 year ban on crossings, the Turkish-Cypriot administration significantly eased travel restrictions across the dividing line in April 2003.
