To celebrate the opening of the Kips Bay Showhouse In New York and TBT I present the "This is NOT the Kips Bay Showhouse" circa 1990. This was really a family effort when we had a small shop in Doylestown, Bucks County in the early '90s. It was our one and only showhouse. Digital printing is a more expensive method of production but among its advantages is color consistency. Here are two runs of Palampore six months apart for the same client. The only variation is the natural grounds they are printed on, which can affect the printed colors. John Richardson passed away yesterday and he maybe remembered best for his biography of Picasso but it was one room in his house that was published by House & Garden in 1993 that inspired me in to have turquoise walls, Scalamandre curtains, a cut velvets from Colefax & Fowler and Clarence House, Ornamenta wallpaper borders in my New York apartment. This picture was taken as I was dismantling it. Anna Maria Garthwaite was one of the greatest silk textile designers of the mid 18th century. The inspiration for our 'Garthwaite Vine', was taken from of one of her sinuous French Rococo designs. We have given it a lighter and more abstract rendering while reinforcing its liveliness.
