My most controversial take is that society actually de-emphasizes sexuality to a problematic degree. Expressing one's self through sexuality and sexual expression are such fundamental parts of the human experience (even for asexuals!) that its kind of absurd how the concept of developing a sexual identity and learning to harness your sexual power are relegated to things you have to do, shamefully, on your own time behind closed doors. Society expects us to be able to put aside sexuality in order to be professional or productive or to exist in a space with others and I do really think thats the cause of a lot of sexual dysfunction. People are hornier than society allows us to be and this results in the development of paraphilias and fixations we would consider 'fetishes' even though they are just signs of healthy human sexual interest or curiosity. To be clear, I have no idea what the society that allows us to be fully sexually expressive would look like or how it could be safely achieved. But I can tell that this one isn't doing it for a lot of people.
