I thought I would approach a subject similar to white-washing.

Heterosexist yaoi couples.

It’s like that almost ALL the time. 

Why are yaoi fangirls ALWAYS making up heterosexist couples for their stories? I mean , gay couples are two guys , so why do you feel the need to make one as “FEMININE” as possible and the other as “masculine” as possible as if there couldn’t be any other setup for relationships. You clearly are making one of the two “the girl” and the other “the guy” . Not only is it a cliché as OLD as the world but it’s a tiny bit offensive too.

And I’m not talking about just one of the two being a tiny little bit flamboyant there. I’m saying it’s more of a “take a stereotypical poor fragile girl , remove boobs , add penis , call it a guy” kind of thing.

I realise I am not the target audience when it comes to yaoi. But encouraging and enabling that kind of crap only reinforces the idea (especially for people who DEVOUR yaoi mangas and fan-stories) that gay couples are ALWAYS and ONLY consisting of a permanent flaming weak bottom and an overly-agressive asshole top. 

So yeah , a little originality and a little research into what gay couples are and aren’t would be nice. Cause to me the yaoi representation of gay people kind of reminds me of crap like black-face and ching-chong-asian stereotypes.

Okay so, here’s the story. For the past few years some friends of mine made a habit of getting me one of those “Men of the Hawaiian Islands” calendars every time they visited Hawaii (one of them had a brother who worked there so she went often, I ended up with several of these). I hung them up at work and we’d giggle a lot at how ridiculous they were, all these oiled up sweaty hairless dudes with weird faces trying to play sexy.

Cut to a few weeks ago and suddenly two of them are like “hey we thought of an idea for you” and we ended up having a long conversation about calendars and some challenges were thrown around. And I ended up agreeing to do a naughty Sherlock calendar. But not a legit trying-to-be-sexy calendar. They all had to be glistening, look slightly uncomfortable, and have totally OOC bangin bodies.
