Ivan stepped off from the station platform into the small metal tram compartment. The longer he stayed in Chicago, the greater his appreciation for the L-Train grew. It always smelled like ferment and old resin, and as Ivan stepped over a puddle of something, the older trains needed more than a little tending to. However, he’d give credit where credit was due— the train was an indefinite convenience, one which he’d gladly look over the myriad of faults if it meant avoiding a long trek home in the windy streets of the still so-foreign city. Chicago still did not feel like home after a year of living there, but Ivan hoped that maybe in another that would change.
