A fun little comparison (featuring the blue bug):
Every so often I'll have that classic artist moment of worrying if I'm getting anywhere, and what helps me at least is looking back at drawings from the previous year, usually of the same character if I can. That was pretty easy this time around.
These were drawn about 11 months apart, the one on the left being uploaded a year ago today.
Last year was especially tricky for me because, while I drew a lot, I think I lost my groove for various reasons (other job obligations meaning I could only do quick things, getting used to a new art programme and health issues giving me hand tremors... that one was something), but even with that it's wild seeing the difference. It's not even just a case of the one on the right being shaded, it just feels more characterful. Even the seemingly small things like his tears are different, going from something I had his golden-eye form do because it "felt right" and now actually being something that fits the design, (his tears form new stars).
Anyway, my point is sometimes you don't realise how you're doing until you take a moment to look at where you've come from and, even if you stumble, you can get back there again. Stay creative, m'dears.
